Opening on February 14th - expecting a romantic movie after a nice romantic dinner?
Once men were men, women were women, and it seemed to work. Today, by my understanding, men must be compassionate, but not wimpy; strong but vulnerable; anticipating woman's needs but not so much as to be pushy about it...no wonder we are all crazy. I have written before that the Modern, Reinvented, Twilight-Vampire is the embodiment of modern women's' "perfect fantasy man." Strong enough to protect you, weak enough to "need a woman to fix him", powerful but thoughtful, etc. They have been displaced in the past few years by Christian Gray...Strong enough to protect you, weak enough to "need a woman to fix him", powerful but thoughtful, etc. (With the added twist that Gray is, whatever his flaws, certainly a Manly Man in the Old Style in many ways.) On behalf of men, who are pretty simple creatures, let me say that WE ARE EXHAUSTED at trying to be both ends of every extreme, and being slagged for failing to be everything at once. (As I am told women are as well, being told by the Modern Feminism that they can be both the Perfect Mom and the Perfect Business Person, ALL THE TIME ALL AT ONCE and if they AREN'T, well, society punishes THEM for failing to be perfect at it all.)
So many divorces today begin on the wife's side, and are against men who are trying to do AT LEAST 50% of everything are being punished for TRYING TO BE what society has for thirty years insisted they SHOULD BE to please women. And women are often finding that the kind of non-assertive, cloying, fawning men that they are supposed to be seeking out are falling short.
John Wayne, Cary Grant, and many of their kind may be coming back into their own. When men were men, and women were glad of it.
Not just opening - opening "wide" on February 14th...
