ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Sen. Charles Schumer is urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to make measles shots free and widely available, like the flu vaccine.
Schumer, D-N.Y., made the recommendation Sunday, noting that the CDC says at least 102 people have contracted measles in 14 states, including New York and New Jersey, so far this year. There was a record number of cases last year — 644 in 27 states.
“It’s clear that we need to get on top of this highly contagious disease before it becomes too big for us to control,” Schumer told reporters, including WCBS 880’s Jim Smith.

I got the shot at an Albertson’s grocery in Oct. They prepared a mix for senior citizens. I paid nothing.
However, I just received the statement from Medicare that shows they paid over $55 for that shot, though they were billed $65 by the pharmacy.
I pay over $1200 a year for Medicare A/B, which I’ve had for 7 1/2 years. The TOTAL paid by Medicare during that time is around $300. ...300/9000= .033% of my premiums paid.

Good point, the flu is statistically more deadly than measles. More people will die of the flu this year than measles.
As opposed to the thousands that die of the flu in one year, and we have about zero for measles for 12 years. Infecting children. I as a boostered and immunized parent could unknowingly carry the disease home to my child. People either can or are insured to get the shots, the only problem is that those who don’t are overwhelmingly the rich families who don’t give it to their kids.
We’ve done this before...In the 60’s, school kids were lined up in the schools and administered the polio vaccine...
The measles aren’t polio by a long shot but who cares, we’re frightened and gotta spend taxpayer some money now.
In a few years it will be the chicken pox vaccine sucking morons in with irrational panic. (yes chicken pox has a fatality rate)
