This is about as credible as Eric Holder investigating Hussein Obama.

Brian Williams - call your lawyer and review your severance clause.

This is about as credible as Eric Holder investigating Hussein Obama.
Or Gooooodell investigating NFL. Or Boehner investigating whiskey. Or Tiger investigating Woods.

Brian Williams was photographing Pluto from the probe from the last report he gave.

Lyin’ Brian is toast, and NBC knows it. At this point, the bulk of the effort NBC puts into this, will be in trying to figure the most graceful way out of their relationship with him.

They’re all real quick to throw him under, now piling on with the New Orleans stories... Who’d he tick off?

I tend to agree. The Tonight Show appearance is probably there to give him a last-ditch effort to save his bacon, but the network has to know the guy’s credibility is most likely shot with their viewers.

Precisely.
“gathering facts ... help us make sense”
Like the NYT, “All the news that’s fit to print.”
NBC, “We’re working on what the next best steps are.”
Everyone knows exactly what “transpired”. This is standard demo-damage control.
And if a conservative had screwed-the-pooch here as badly as Lyin’ Brian, the MSM would be demanding: resignation, prison, lethal injection ...

...the network has to know the guys credibility is most likely shot with their viewers. Oh, they know alright. They're the Twitternet generation, and are following all of the outrage, indignation, and ridicule exploding across cyberspace.
The top brass at GE/NBC must be in round-the-clock strategy meetings as we speak. This guy was the very face of their entire enterprise, and now the whole world has his number as a pathetic liar who stole the valor of real heroes.
I guarantee you, this boondoggle is already with the lawyers, who are working out how to separate Brian from the company, while protecting their corporate interests.
Worst of all for them, is their reputation as a news organization is now in the toilet with many libs. I mean, lots of people at NBC knew for over a decade that this guy was lying about this story, but no one at the top did a thing to stop him. Now they will pay.

Brian has become a laughingstock, the worst thing that can happen to a high profile wad. NBC can't fire him now, it makes them look weak and stupid.
So they praise him, give him awards and "complete support." But he is a liability, like a splinter causing chronic pain. Eventually NBC will promote him into uselessness. Then he's forgotten.
It's the elite media Waste Management Program.
