Single-sided 78 rpm records were beginning to replace wax cylinders. There were no electric recordings until 1924, so everybody recording a disk or cylinder had to play into an acoustical horn.

We would find the popular music of that era strange today.

I don’t think the music would be as strange as the quality would jangle our sensitive ears! :)
