NBC News anchor Brian Williams, who apologized on the air Wednesday night for lying about an experience covering the Iraq War, is now facing scrutiny over his gripping accounts of Hurricane Katrina, the disaster that burnished his nightly news bona fides almost a decade ago.
Williams account of seeing a body float by in the French Quarter which remained largely dry and even a claim of catching dysentery from drinking Katrina floodwaters have raised eyebrows among bloggers and elsewhere since he took it on the chin this week over a claim that he rode in a helicopter that was downed by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq.
I was instead in a following aircraft. We all landed after the ground fire incident and spent two harrowing nights in a sandstorm in the Iraq desert, Williams said Wednesday. He painted his earlier description as a bungled attempt to thank an Iraq War veteran.
The online feeding frenzy quickly turned to the 55-year-old anchors signature assignment: covering Katrina from before it made landfall, when he spent the night of the storm with refuge-seekers in the Superdome and then reported on the harrowing days that followed.

Unfortunately, that graphic doesn’t show the maximum flooding of the city. It was probably taken a couple of weeks after the storm hit when the flood water was receding. We had water inundate our first floor space across from the Superdome, and the building was 5 feet off the street.
Follow the links at the Advocate web site. It seems the Ritz Carlton really was surrounded by water, at least over the sidewalks. Did a body float by? We’ll never know. It doesn’t matter; Williams needs to go.
Aw come on, poor little Brian is still traumatized from the “harrowing sandstorm” he so bravely endured !
Brian Williams just became a joke journalist, regardless of his future with NBC. His legacy is this.
Imagine the next event that he has to cover: no one (with a pulse) will believe anything he says.
Brian Williams, “When I was stranded by the floodwaters of Katrina, I bravely held out against zombie hordes and had to eat dead bodies to survive!”
If a man had a sense of personal honor, he would not make up serial lies to embellish his own standing, so the answer is going to be
On August 31, the water was considerably more widespread than the graphic implies. Clemson University? Please.
And remember Shep reporting all the rapes and killings in the superdome????
BROKAW: “Last month we reported on Forest Service employees in Idaho’s Clearwater National Forest who felt the forest was overcut, causing fouled streams and endangering fish. At one brief point, we inadvertently used footage of dead fish from another forest farther south, not from Clearwater. We also showed workers conducting tests on water in the Clearwater where fish appeared to be dead. In fact, they were not; they had been stunned for testing purposes. And finally, we showed a large area of land that the timber industry claims was burned and not cut. Our information remains that the video accurately portrayed the clearcuts, although some portions may have been cut after a fire. We regret the inappropriate video to illustrate that was otherwise an accurate report.”

In an extraordinary public apology, NBC said Tuesday night that it erred in staging a fiery test crash of a General Motors pickup truck for its “Dateline NBC” news program and agreed to settle a defamation suit filed by the auto maker. “We deeply regret we included the inappropriate demonstration in our ‘Dateline’ report,” said a statement read by NBC News co-anchors Jane Pauley and Stone Phillips Tuesday night. “We apologize to our viewers and to General Motors.
(Brokaw wants Williams fired for NBC’s standard of practices?)
“Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don’t tell the truth uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof”

I would bet that Brian cannot see what all the outrage is about.
I remember Brian talking about Katrina...something about being a spotter for snipers on the Superdome..
Go to the Advocate story and follow the links. Most of the FQ stayed dry, but not the back part, and apparently not the part around the RC hotel. When I got back in town on September 6, there was still plenty of water around but Canal Street at Chartres was high and dry, with media trailers and tents as far as the eye could see. I probably could have got a spectacular free meal in exchange for some wild stories. As it was, I didn’t get into the NYT till a month later.
Hey what’s wrong with a little embellishment if it helps the narrative wrt what you ate selling/ pushing¿?? After all it’s the democrat way. Pause a while, tell it often and it will become the truth. Meanwhile dead WWII veterans yield to revisionist history.
I can’t believe the amount of air time that has been wasted on this non-story....who the hell cares...it was 12 years ago ...PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW AND STOP BEING DISTRACTED.
Brian has a very active imagination like a child. I think he has a screw loose or is extremely insecure and needs these wild tales to make him feel like he’s a really brave man.
I knew he was lying when he originally made those claims.
