OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Muslim Day at the Capitol will be held at the end of the month for members of the religion to learn more about state government and become more familiar with their lawmakers.
The Oklahoma chapter for the Council on American-Islamic Relations organized the event for the first time this year.
News of the event did encounter backlash on social media, however.
Its kind of depressing to see such hatred and negativity, especially about practicing a right thats fundamentally American, said CAIR Executive Director Adam Soltani.
Comments were made on social media such as Im sick of our society catering to these people, and others calling the event national terrorist day, or saying Islam is not a religion.
I really wish they would get to know a Muslim, because the faith isnt represented by the people who commit criminal actions.

Will they be celebrating the BEHEADING of the Christian woman by a muzzleman last year in OKC?
NEVER FORGET!
How many muzzys will they hang? All of them I hope.
Get to know a muslim? That’s pretty difficult if they practice taqqiya.
If they’re actually nice people, they don’t need a “day” any more than the rest of us.
And if they are so great, why are their parts of the world so crappy? That is a legitimate question that I would love to hear Barry Obama try to answer.
If Christian or Jewish groups want to hold a Christian Day or Jewish Day, they are free to do so.
Can we have “Christian Day” in Saudi Arabia?
Oklahoma may have been touched by Islamic extremists and those acting on their behalf nearly 20 years ago.
The Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols saga, culminating in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, apparently had its roots back in the Philippines, and possible (but never established) contacts between Terry Nichols and the Abu Sayyaf Group, an Islamic front in the Philippines attached to Al Qaeda.
Both McVeigh and Nichols are commonly considered to be representing the interests of several different survivalist groups, with some familiarity with a screed called “The Turner Diaries”. This may be a red herring, though, as while the opinion is that this was the source of their radicalization, their aims and objectives happened to coincide quite well with those of Al-Qaeda and Abu Sayyaf, both bent on disrupting and terrorizing the lives of Americans in the continental US.
The narrative has always been, the bombing was entirely a plot by “right-wing” interests, and this aspect of its planning and execution was entirely domestic in origin. But the money flow has never been fully delineated, and one suspects there is more than a little connection between the costs of travel between the US and the Philippines and Nichols’ apparently limited means of support.
Will Satan’s Day be combined or will that day of honor be scheduled on its own?
Not losing but already lost.
Again equating stern disagreement and disapproval to hate. I am so bloody sick of this. I don’t hate Muslims. I hate kissing their ass at every opportunity.
In Connecticut, 2 larger cities, will have schools recognize Muslim holidays......Waterbury and New London, IIRC.
I believe they will.

I hope someone steals the mic again
Yeah, be sure to include the Murrah Building in that.
This is done in grateful response to “Christian Day” recently celebrated in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
NOT.
Worked in the Muslim world for 20 years of my life and worked with them in offices in the US. Most of them were educated in the US.
Have really no desire to know them better than I already do.
“...because the faith isnt represented by the people who commit criminal actions.
Most apparently, it is. But I am open-minded - I will reconsider my opinion of islam after a few annual peaceful “Jewish Day” celebrations in Mecca. Until then, not a chance.
I am willing to rely on your opinion in this matter.
