Visiting Beijing between Feb. 3-5, President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner of Argentina is set to sign an agreement with China to increase the military-to-military cooperation between two nations, according to the UK-based Jane's Defence Weekly.
Under the agreement, China North Industries Corporation will help Argentina produce a version of the VN1 wheeled armored personnel carrier, while China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation will help develop various types of naval ship.
China is understood to have introduced five of its P18 export corvettes to Argentina. A source from the Argentine government said the vessels are estimated to cost US$50 million each.
Known as the Malvinas-class after the Argentine name for the Falkland Islands, the five offshore patrol vessels each carry a 76 mm main gun, two 30 mm cannon, eight anti-ship missiles and two triple torpedo launchers. The 1,800-tonne ship can also carry a medium-sized helicopter. Argentina has requested a larger flight deck to handle its Sea King helicopters and a towed sonar to increase the vessel's anti-submarine capability. Two of the corvettes will be built in China while the other three will be co-produced in Argentina. The P18s may be delivered started in 2017 according to Jane's.
If the agreement is signed as expected, it should be considered a major step in Argentina's efforts to revive its military power with help from China. The agreement may also help China open a new market to export its military aircraft.
I hope they buy the Z06 Model, but a Z51 is pretty good.
Will Argentina moor them next to the General Belgrano or will they leave that job to the British?
Yeah, so why does the Argentine Navy have glass bottomed ships?
Seriously, how is that thing supposed to fit in the garage?
A Chinese Corvette? That’s got to do, what, zero to sixty in twenty seconds? At least it seats you and your only child.
LOL!!!
Nigeria has a navy?
***the General Belgrano***
Survived Pearl Harbor as an American navy vessel, sold to Argentina where she ran into British torpedo.
How are they paying? I would suggest to the Chinese that they should not be offering financing...
The way you phrase it the Brits don’t even get credit for the sinking.

"....Argentina has a severe, ongoing energy deficit that directly impacts the countrys trade and economy," Leah Soibel, the executive director of the Jerusalem-based non-profit group Fuente Latina, told FNL. "The deal in question would have been mutually beneficial. Argentina desperately needed to increase its oil imports. Iran wanted Nismans investigation and Interpol warrants against Iranian leaders accused of involvement in the AMIA attack to come to an end....
...While Nisman made clear that no deal for oil with Iran ever reached fruition a move that could have triggered hefty U.S. sanctions but business between the two countries ramped up with reports indicating that the annual trade volume between the two countries, while insignificant in previous decades, now stands at more than $1 billion a year. ...
...Some observers believe that Nisman was killed, despite the damning information released in his report, because he had even more explosive information that could force Argentina to prosecute the Iranian agents involved in the AMIA bombing ... and to derail the lucrative trade between the two countries..."
It's Always About The Money.
Maybe Argentina’s creditors could negotiate a deal where Britain can seize possession of the Argentine corvettes as repayment for the Argentine debts.
Hey, that’s was stolen from an old POLISH joke :)
Zora Arkus-Duntov was Chinese? WHO KNEW?!?
“Argentina set to sign deal for Chinese corvettes”
So Harbor Freight is now selling corvettes, I wonder if I can uses my 50% off coupon to buy one. LOL
Haha, You hit the nail on the head squarely. Harbor Freight would for sure be the place to find the Chinese Corvette. It would probably last a few months before you would need to buy another or consider buying a real one.
So they can see where they are going.
The derision on this thread must sound eerily like the comments about the “Japs” before 12-07-1941. The Japs all wore thick glasses and their airplanes were built out of paper. Thousands of deaths later, the laughter stopped.
This will be all fun and games until a US or other plane or commercial airliner is shot down by the latest generation of anti-aircraft missiles the Chinese might supply these warcraft with. Argentina is currently a friend, but the way Obama treats everyone, who knows about the future?
Just my opinion.
