WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) The Federal Communications Commission will seek more influence on Internet regulation to ensure net neutrality, its chairman said Wednesday.
In an editorial published on {link:the website of the magazine Wired: http://www.wired.com/2015/02/fcc-chairman-wheeler-net-neutrality?mbid=social_twitter,nw}, Tom Wheeler explained new rules, proposed this week, to preserve the Internet as an open platform for innovation and free expression. This proposal is rooted in long-standing regulatory principles, marketplace experience, and public input.
The new rules will cast {link:high-speed Internet service as a public utility: http://www.cnbc.com/id/102376526″,nw}, an unidentified person, who was consulted the FCC {link:on the proposal, told CNN: http://money.cnn.com/2015/02/02/technology/net-neutrality-fcc/index.html,nw}. The change would give the FCC more power to regulate arrangements between Internet and content providers, and would change current policy in which Internet providers charge content companies, such as Netflix, for direct access to customers through broadband.
The FCC would have the power to ensure broadband companies do not create slow lanes for public internet traffic, a concept known as net neutrality.
Wheelers plans are in accordance with President Obamas statement in November...

Once again, the Gipper is SPOT-ON!
If it moves...tax it!
If it continues to move...regulate it!
If it stops moving...subsidize it!
President Reagan has been the most accurate reader of the Washington, D.C. politic crowd since the SIXTIES, and still is, even in death!!
My latest ATT bill for phone and internet:
Surcharges and Other fees $4.81
Government Fees and and Taxes $2.57
This is the 21st Century version of the British Stamp Act, and we know how well that was received.
coming soon enough
taxes for subsidizing internet to the “poor” and a Shared Responsibility Tax there too
Innocuous, noxious. It’s pretentious and mischievous, as much as it false, and deceiving.
My take: consider any of the big companies like At&T or Verizon. Currently they are expanding their footprints to attract customers - enter the government telling them they can’t recoop those costs by providing an extra boost in power to a large insurance company that wants to update all servers at night, or to accommodate a business that wants faster internet and are willing to pay extra for it. Now the gov tells them the ghetto rats get the same speed as that “willing to pay for it” private business. How much more expansion/updating do you think the provider is going to do in the future?
I think that cat's out of that bag already. ICANN (which does this) sold stakes to foreign entities and we relinquished authority to manage and contract it any more.
First time Obama has ever blundered into an action that will PREVENT him from imposing more tyranny and control.
At that time it was state of the art.
My point is, if need be, we can form a new internet. The technology is out there.
Yep here come the control freaks that many Freepers seem to to all of sudden trust. Rest assure this happens then Free Republic days are numbered.
1) The FCC has 0 Authority over the World Wide Web. They DO NOT MAKE LAW.
2) Remember too it’s ONLY 3 CONTROL FREAK DEMOCRATS that want to protect politicians that are being exposed. ***note*** Notice how for the most part they ignore the media and the press that are in their backpocket. Oh except for talk radio which they want to shut down too.
3) They can’t even pass a law in congress, but 3 Democrats along with filthy corrupt judge are going to try make law????
This is 100% certified bull!
Been saying this for a while. When in lawless Rome, be lawless yourself.
I, too, remember the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Long gone, bud....that stuff is so September 10th.
I 100 percent don’t believe you at all.
Samaritan is watching.....
KYPD
Ted Cruz is the ONLY candidate who will REVERSE this crap.
He is not a Dictator. He would need to convince the Senate and House of such a thing. So far he has not been able to get support from Congress on any of his bills and certainly nothing has been passed. So how do you suppose he is going to get all these things passed? I learned from John Bolton that nothing gets done in America. He went to the UN to change things and didn’t get a thing accomplished.
got the indian costumes??? i know there the tea is....
lets roll
The FCC will do it. The House and Senate won’t do a thing to stop them.
I’m game. I want my Constitution and Representative Republic back.
In a technical sense, it’s true that one can form another “Internet” ... but in a real-world, practical and every-day sense ... it’s literally impossible. I can’t see the slightest possibility of the massive infrastructure required, being done in duplicate (and I’m not talking about dial-up from one BBS to another).
Once it is a public utility they can regulate what is said/posted just like the FCC does on network TV and radio.
You either accept the queer agenda or the thought police shut you down. Nothing will be legal unless it supports the left wing point of view.
