... Among them will be Ted Cruz, who from the inception of his political career a dozen years ago has used his rhetorical wits to establish himself as a true conservative. The result is that the junior senator from Texas has become the darling of the GOP's right flank, many of whom are enthusiastic about the idea of electing him our next president. I'm not one of them. It works to a political speaker's favor to tell his audience what they want to hear. Cruz was a champion debater in college, so he knows how to score points with the judges. Certainly he feels comfortable in his conservative shoes. But of late, Ted Cruz has tweaked this comfort zone a few notches to a rather self-serving, holier-than-thou assumption that he is the only viable Republican presidential candidate who holds consistently to conservative beliefs.

The article makes some valid points but appears to have been written by a Republican rather than a conservative.
You are VERY CORRECT on your view, I like Cruz but HE HAS NO REAL EXPERIENCE governing ANYTHING!!!!! he would be GREAT on the SCOTUS or as AG perhaps VP!!!!!!!
In Roman mythology, where he belongs.

There are also a fair smattering of "he's not a Natural Born Citizen" comments, as are also seen on FR threads about Cruz.TienBing -- two hours ago
This is one of the most transparent pure hit pieces ever printed in AT. The only value of the essay is to give Cruz haters and the establishment drones a warm fuzzy feeling.
mikefromwichita, 4 hours agoThe occasional commentator agrees with the article, most while still admiring Cruz. About 20 to 1 pro-Cruz:
Pathetic article- not even a mention of the Real Reason Cruz can never Constitutionally be President. He is NOT a Natural Born Citizen. The only possible conclusion regarding his eyeing of such an illegitimate run for the Presidency is that he is either too stupid to understand the Constitution or simply too lacking in Character to accept Rules which thwart his personal ambitions. Either way real conservatives will not enable him.
One person even goes after the Goldman connection, which I have raised previously:Jeff 2 hours ago
Finally! An article on AT that I can agree with. Ms.O'Brien exposes Mr. Cruz for what he is. A Wannabe. He is only in his early 40s, Get some real world experience Ted and show us what you can do in a position other than the most powerful person in the world. When you've got a management track record come back and talk to us.

Doris completely misses the most glaring and significant disqualification. Ted Cruz's wife works for Goldman Sachs.I'm a HUGE Ted Cruz guy too.
But until the global criminal enterprise known as Goldman Sachs is extricated from American public policy, the tax code abolished/IRS dissolved, corporate accounting returned to GAAP and a couple hundred perpetrators thrown in prison the USA Republic is finished. And the war between the police state/Beltway Complex and the armed citizenry of the former Republic will reach epic proportions.
Ted Cruz's birth certificate is a non issue. Even the tiniest link to Goldman should be deemed automatically as guilt by association.

In general a lot like what one reads on Ted Cruz threads here at FR.
That was a well written, argued and presented post on Cruz.
I don’t agree at all with your conclusion, but appreciate such an open direct argument.
I think your review of his cv reflects a person with a work ethic who is competent.
I think if he were an opportunist he would have joined up with the Democrats or the GOP establishment.
Amnesty is the overriding issue because allowing all these people to stay is what guarantees the One party Democrat State because they will vote. If they are allowed to stay they will be made citizens at some point, probably sooner rather than later.Even while not citizens they will vote quasi legally in more and more of the big cities as they do already in Chicago and San Francisco. And of course wherever there is Democrat dominance in an area they will vote in great numbers right there in line with the Deceased Citizens.
If a candidate is right on all the issues but Amnesty he is entirely wrong because allowing amnesty negates the value of all the other issues.
To date, sixteen senators have also served as president of the United States. Three senators, Warren G. Harding, John F. Kennedy, and Barack Obama moved directly from the U.S. Senate to the White House.

The establishment GOPe in Texas likes people like Cornyn, which should tell them everything they need to know.
After 8 years as POTUS, Cruz can then move over to SCOTUS.
Sounds like envy guides you option making. Thanks for the Wikapedia data on Cruz.
Actually, I think a man who knows what he wants and has a plan is to be admired, not scoffed at.
Maybe he didn’t want to be a scientist, ever think of that?
Every career has a ladder to success, and he’s climbed it with grace and conviction. you can’t start out as an Eagle Scout, first you’re a Cub Scout, then a Scout, then an Eagle, with lots of merit badges in between.
What we direly need is a man with courage, with principles, and conviction...all the rest is on-the-job-training. He hates our enemies, respects our friends, and gets the job done.
If you dislike Cruz, you must really hate Walker...I mean with no “degree” at all. But with his work ethic and principles he’d make a good president too.
I like Rand.
I also Like Ike. I’ve even got the bumper sticker. But he’s dead.
I really, really support Scott Walker.
Zombie George Washington. (ZGW 2016)
Who the frack is adoris? I’m new here. I only cozy up with my dog.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucius_Quinctius_Cincinnatus
No myth and admired by Washington. He did what Caesar would not.
LOL. I’m new here, so I suppose I’ll need to earn my wings before flying. Keep suspecting sumfing - I would if I were you.
You’ll be seeing me here a lot. I used to be a liberal, but none of the liberals agreed with me. Now I’m a conservative, and I’ll wager none of the conservatives will agree with me.
I don’t fit molds. I don’t hate Cruz. I’ll vote for him if he wins the primary. I just know his type. Keep in mind my father knew Clinton for years (really knew him and really hated him - I’m from Arkansas btw), and many of these “career” politicians really do make plans. That’s all I’ll say about that. Cruz strikes me as a career politician.
If you took his resume and tried to get a job with it, the first question in the interview would be “how come you jumped ship so often?”
“...a rather self-serving, holier-than-thou assumption that he is the only viable Republican presidential candidate who holds consistently to conservative beliefs.”
Name one other, then. I notice the article fails to do that, which implies to me that Cruz is correct, or his opposition wouldn’t fail to point it out.
No, Cincinnatus has entered the Roman mythology, as firmly as Romulus and Remus.
And it's a darn good thing. Even if you and Geo admire him. Basing support of politicians based on their motivations is somewhat silly, given that many don't do what they claim they do. I'll settle for 'say as you do, do as you say'.

” After 8 years as POTUS, Cruz can then move over to SCOTUS.”
LOL....Worked for Taft.
What all successive screen names do you have picked out?
Looks like we got us a new Sheriff here in town. lol
I don’t think that I articulated myself well at all. I also don’t think I’ve thought it out as well as I need to. I’m too emotional about it. I know guys like this and the ones I don’t know I can smell ‘em from a mile away. They’re not bad people, they’re just...different.
Your point is good and I don’t disagree with it. Some other people have suggested that Texas is “safe” and so he can say what he likes - but I lived in Texas for 15 years and Texas is no longer “safe.” In fact, it’s poised to become a swing state in the coming years. The GOP is well aware of that. He isn’t guaranteed his seat forever. The stuff he’s saying I agree with nearly 100%. I just don’t think, when it all comes down to it, that he’ll actually do what he’s saying if he’s wanting a second term and things go against him.
” What all successive screen names do you have picked out?”
Axel could try “I spee sponish, and so will you! “
