That was a well written, argued and presented post on Cruz.

I don’t agree at all with your conclusion, but appreciate such an open direct argument.

I think your review of his cv reflects a person with a work ethic who is competent.

I think if he were an opportunist he would have joined up with the Democrats or the GOP establishment.

I don’t think that I articulated myself well at all. I also don’t think I’ve thought it out as well as I need to. I’m too emotional about it. I know guys like this and the ones I don’t know I can smell ‘em from a mile away. They’re not bad people, they’re just...different.

Your point is good and I don’t disagree with it. Some other people have suggested that Texas is “safe” and so he can say what he likes - but I lived in Texas for 15 years and Texas is no longer “safe.” In fact, it’s poised to become a swing state in the coming years. The GOP is well aware of that. He isn’t guaranteed his seat forever. The stuff he’s saying I agree with nearly 100%. I just don’t think, when it all comes down to it, that he’ll actually do what he’s saying if he’s wanting a second term and things go against him.

I agree is Cruz is nothing more than a crass opportunist then the GOPE is the absolute way to go as they would sell their own mothers into slavery to win another election or to pick up an extra $20 from their masters.

I can go with Cruz or Walker but another establishment puke like Bush or The Rube is a non-starter I’m done voting for losers and the Republican party right now is the epitome of a loser when it comes to presidential elections and politics in general. They are statist and just want their turn collecting taxes from the peasants and lining their wallets. They could care less about me or the country just like their out in they open liberal counterparts in the Democrat party.

“I think if he were an opportunist he would have joined up with the Democrats or the GOP establishment.”

In Texas joining the Democrats would be a suicide move.

JMHO but my feelings on Ted are that he’s more of a showboat. He loves throwing out the red meat by making what are arguably symbolic gestures.

Didn’t he recently do this in the senate and unintentionally gave Harry Reid an opportunity to bring about a dozen judicial nominees up for a vote? Nominees who had up til that moment been effectively defeated.

I felt the same way about the government shutdown. In the media it was Ted leading the charge, but it was in the House where the action was. In effect IMHO Ted put the house Republicans on the hot seat while his own position is safe.

I expect he’ll run for president, get walloped, finish out his term as senator and then go to work for Fox News and write a lot of books and do paid speaking gigs.

There’s a lot of money in media and Rush and the rest of the conservative radio hosts aren’t getting any younger.

He’ll continue to throw red meat to his base only he won’t be on the hook and the pay is way better.
