“Why does Radio Shack ask for your phone number when you buy batteries?”

or zip code like some other stores around here.

I used to argue or say no, but lately I just give a fake number like 111-111-1111 or fake zip like 11111 and then wait and see if they accuse me of making them up, which is great fun if they’re stupid enough to do that, because I then retort: “Are you calling me a liar?”.

LOL! I use "Hollywood" phone numbers. Decades ago, the film industry was allowed to use any phone number starting with 555 in films. No one in real life has a 555 number. So just make one up: 555-4950, etc.
