#103 that is a clystron. It is used in the navigational califragilistic assembly. In helps steer the starship.

I helped build one once.
Yep they called me ol’ clystron Frisby.

My uncle had one of those tube testers in his garage.

An end of an era... I hope it isn’t true...what about the franchised Radio Shack stores...?

The end of an era.

Really. One of my favorite birthday gifts I got as a kid (1970's) was a Radio Shack metal detector. I used to dig up my grandparent's yard looking for stuff.

I had a "co-op" job as a junior in my technical high school teaching computers to 7th and 8th graders on TRS-80 computers.

I rarely go into a Radio Shack now, but when you need a connector or adapter or special cable in a pinch, it's about the only place to go. I read posts on this thread about Fry's, but there aren't any around here near Philly. The only other place would be Micro Center and I have to drive 40 minutes to get there.

I think someone will buy the ‘Radio Shack’ name. And remake it into what it was in my youth..

The speakers on my desk, hooked to my PC are ...

Minimus-7 Cat. No. 40-2030B

Still sound great.

Circa 1980s I think.

I used to have that album. I bought it back in the early to mid 1970’s at some point.

Once upon a time electronic equipment was serviced by trained technicians. Appliances lasted decades. Brand names deserved their loyal customers. Reputations were hard earned and vigorously defended.

The “occupant” of “1600” is a personified manifestation of the trend away from these traits.

I know. I still use a 1982 Zenith TV we bought new. She shows her age a little but she still comes through.

Now where will I buy my resistors and capacitors?

If you’re in Atlanta go to Ack adio. It’s an old time electronics parts store from the days when radios and TVs were actually repaired.

I just re-wired my living room stereo gear on Saturday night. The front speakers are the one's I purchased from Radio Shack for $88 each. They are Pioneer speakers under a Radio Shack label. Still good after over 40 years. They were purchased with money earned working at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor during my senior year in high school.

I’ve been using Digi-Key for a long time now...

The same goes for me. I have never been disappointed with them. Mouser is a close second. I have been ordering from Digi-Key for a longer time, so they get "first dibs". People who order from any other sources are just plain uninformed or misinformed.
