American Sniper Sets Another Record

"American Sniper," the movie portraying the life of Navy SEAL and deadliest sniper in American history Chris Kyle, is on its way to being a $300 million dollar movie. The Warner Brothers film, directed by Clint Eastwood, has already shattered a number of box office records and is up for six Oscars. Over the weekend, the movie hit a new record, raking in more money on Super Bowl weekend than any other movie in history.

“American Sniper” is nearing the $250 million mark, picking up $31.8 million to set a new Super Bowl weekend record.

The previous high-water mark for football’s big weekend, was “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour,” which picked up $31.2 million when it premiered in 2008.

If it continues on this torrid clip, Clint Eastwood’s biopic of Chris Kyle could challenge “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1? as the highest grossing 2014 release and will pass “The Matrix Reloaded” to become the second biggest R-rated release in history. It’s earned $248.9 million — an unbelievable result for an adult drama about such hard-hitting topics as war and its psychological effects.

“American Sniper” dwarfed all challengers for the third consecutive weekend. Family film “Paddington” managed to carve out a niche for itself, earning $8.7 million and pushing its domestic total past the $50 million mark.

The movie is now being played internationally.

He never saw the movie? Would he go with you if you took him? It might help him to see the painstaking effort made to ensure that every sniper bad guy target was a bonafide threat with multiple verifications

Kinda not like the way Bill Clinton and Weasly Clark ran the Balkans war by bombing cities from 35,000’, eh?

You might want to look into the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

Remind me again how much the Annie and Selma movies are (not) bringing in.

I believe “boyhood” will win for best picture and best directing. Not to take anything away from “American Sniper”. However, boyhood should win. It may also win for best supporting actress for Patricia Arquett. Although my favorite movie she was in will always be “True Romance”.

And he can understand why it was important for Marines to go door to door, seeking out the terrorist ring leaders. The sniper’s job is to cover the brave Marines who put their lives and health on the line to protect the world from terrorist scum.

“Thus insuring it won’t win the Academy Award.”

In a perverse way, I hope it doesn’t win any Academy Awards, because it would be proof positive that the Awards don’t mean anything. Further, if it doesn’t win anything, we should hit Hollywood with it early and often. The only thing more “sacred” in Hollywood than their liberalism are their wallets! After all, what pays for their limos? Facelifts?, Boob jobs?

Academy voters are given dvds on all the movies prior to voting. In the old days, they had to go to the movies.

Well-made patriotic movies have somehow consistently brought in huge profits, which makes no sense at all to the executives in Hollywood. They will continue to mostly produce trash that has a much smaller audience than this movie.

Did he see the movie? Does he know the difference between terrorism and military action?
