Research Triangle Park, N.C. A "resource action," or layoffs, are underway at IBM (NYSE: IBM) under the name "Project Chrome," workers are telling the Alliance@IBM Union.
"Bloodbath today," wrote an IBMer in Columbia, Mo. "Me? Yes, RA'd."
At a time when IBM is aggressively transforming, the company continues to rebalance its workforce to meet the changing requirements of its clients and to lead in new, high value segments of the IT industry, including cloud, analytics, mobile, security, social and cognitive computing. This is not new news," IBM said in a statement. "IBM announced a $600 million workforce rebalancing charge in 4Q, 2014. ...

Plus if they are fired "for cause" IBM can dispute any unemployment claims. I doubt that they would but regardless, with the tens of thousands of former long-term, dedicated employees they're shafting it's going to be a lot of bad publicity for IBM to ride out. Not that I think they care about it.
As I recall, Ginni Rometty (from Chicago’s North Side) was one of the first CEOs to meet with Ozero after his
2008 re-election....
It's kind of like the mob, "we're going have to kill you. Don't take it personally, it's just business."
They’ll start hiring H1-Bs and illegal aliens before the week is out...
IBM whackin’ em at their dubuque, IA facility. 200 are “decruited”
“I read that if your review is low they are cutting the severance and calling it performance related. Super dirty of IBM. Now, these ex-employees will be trying to find jobs with bad performance reviews.

I think people understand business, whether it is driven down by obama or by poor management decisions or both, but for a company to treat folks that way is horrible. I hope that is more rumor than fact.
There’s the British term “made redundant”.
” giving tens of thousand of employees sub-par performance ratings and then firing them for cause. “
An evil thing to do. There times when lawsuits are needed to hold people to account for bad actions.
Based on the information coming out it's far more fact than rumor. And blaming the administration, any administration, for a company's woes is a cop-out. And the end of the day IBM's problems are solely the result of poor management and the bad decisions that they made. That would be true regardless of who is in the White House.
ABEND
I had read some not-so-great things about the CEO of IBM...very critical. Management screwups cause serious damage.
After you get right sized you see this company/family crap for what it is.
My son was offered a fabulous job with IBM just a few months ago. He was really torn between taking it or staying with his current company. The current company came through with a big promotion so he stayed. I’m glad he did.
Gini Rometty? I haven't heard a whole lot of positives about her. I believe that IBM's sales have been flat or declining since before she took charge and she hasn't been able to improve things. On the plus side I think she was one of the first women to be admitted to Augusta National.
My favorite is 'disintermediated'.
