Apple delivered the greatest earnings report in history on Tuesday.
That's not hyperbole. Apple earned $18 billion in net income over the three-month period of October to December 2014. That's more than any other company has ever earned over a three-month span.
Apple earned those mind-melting profits thanks mostly to the iPhone, which is an incredible business.
Apple sold 74.5 million iPhones, up 46% from the year prior. The iPhone generated $51 billion in revenue, giving each iPhone an average selling price of $687.

You make it seem like Tim Cook staged a palace coup after Steve Jobs died and took over the company so he could run it into the ground.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Steve Jobs handpicked Cook as his successor and even went so far as to state that he was the only person he trusted to take Apple to the next level as CEO. That's pretty high praise if you ask me. He also thought very highly of designer Jonathon Ive and structured it so that Jonathon reports to nobody and has complete autonomy. Nobody, not even Cook, can tell Ive what to do with regard to product design. However, it is Cook who Jobs picked to run the company.
Jobs knew he was dying and he also knew exactly what he was doing - he made sure that his company was structured in such a way that it would have success for years to come.
I am not making a mistake. You are. Are you maintaining that your Firephone is not a fork of Android? Where are the cheaper smartphones that are not iPhones, Windows (which are more expensive than Androids, and often as expensive as iPhones), or Android? Blackberry is still out there. . . but not cheaper. The MSRP for the unlocked Blackberry Q10 is $1199. Again, you prove you don't know anything.
It sounds like you never even tried to use them if they were collecting dust. You have to use them to understand them and then learn to appreciate them. Every person I know who has switched from a Windows machine to a Mac has later asked why they did not switch earlier, once they got past about a two week learning curve.
Amazon Fire Phone, 32GB (Unlocked GSM) $199.00
Iphone 6 unlocked $649.00
Basic math 199 is less that 649. By about 450 bucks.
I know you got a sparky degree and all so maybe get a 4th grader to help you with the math. hahahah.
night all...
Of course I understand it. . . but you've never tried a truly GOOD user interface. You don't understand what you are criticizing. You think it is all the same. . . just like the Android users and Windows users think that every phone and computer is just as miserable an experience to work with as theirs. I cannot tell you how many ex-Windows users have said to me that computing is FUN again after switching to a Mac from Windows.
There you go with the insulting "Sparky" names. Apple NEVER discounts their flagship phones. NEVER. Amazon released their flagship phone on June 25, 2014. . . and not more then six weeks later discounted it down 99¢ because they were not selling. I have no need to read the economics of price cutting. I've been a CEO and know WHY someone cuts prices drastically in only a few weeks after releasing a very expensive product and spending a hell of a lot of money on marketing it. IT DID NOT SELL!
You fell for the hype for a BAD PRODUCT that was intended to sell you more goodies from Amazon. That's what it was intended to do. . . and they got you to buy it. Ii find that uproariously funny! They made you buy their advertising vehicle! Not quite as good as Google did, but good.
APPLE STINKS that way. I have always used Sansa products for MP3 listening. But a friend asked me to set up and explain how her ipod works. I was amazed you had to use itunes to move music files from your computer to the ipod. I despise controlling crap like this. Look at all the little sheeple going to the itunes store. I will never buy music or anything from itunes and have never had to
My little Sansa clip is smaller and better than any stinking ipod
I can assure you that you are not their target market. You do not figure in to their marketing plan period. Oh and they will not be giving you anything, or anyone else for that matter.
Has some one coded your browser so as to trick you into clicking on these threads? You would never know if pom poms were being shook if you didn't come on these threads to insult every Apple product and their customers.
Most of my money goes to Obama and so does yours complain about that and leave us moron Apple users alone.
Stalkers are weird and you are one of about half dozen that spill their bile on these threads.
More power to Apple. I loved Isaacson’s book about Jobs. But I never have and most likely never will own anything Apple. I hate the obnoxious controlling mentality. I’d rather go back to the stone age if necessary.
Apple people are like a cult....they brook no critique....well my daughters do since I pay for their phones
I own 14 phones.....7 are Cupertino origin
I own 3 high gig pads and 1 mini....all Apple
I owned a pre release to Columbia university McIntosh in 1984.....my girlfriend was a grad student there....we lived nearby
I don’t think their products are the best always
They have flaws.....the store help is great
The company has always talked feel good progressive crap but acted like robber barons.....Bill Gates gets media hammered but Apple is no different
It’s like libs....talk platitudes but act selfish
And going to a store in an urban area is worse than going to Whole foods
Without question the technology loved by lefties
I’m ambivalent in the true definition sense
But treating Apple like it Crimson Tide or LSU is silly
And he has not taken his meds yet...
lol.
After all that I don't understand why you are so concerned about what I do with MY money, or with my words.
If I disagree with you about your favorite homo/leftist activist why would you even care, let alone grow so exercised?
Truth be told I had an iphone, and it was fine, though it was an older model and wouldn't hold a charge very well.
A couple days before my carrier contract came due, Tim Cockboy came out with his famous statement about "global warming deniers" not being wanted by Apple. If you don't like it, "get out," he said.
So I took my money elsewhere. Sorry if that causes you to, um, boil over.
Hahaha again you morph the issue to try and cover up how wrong you were. Remember you said to buy a smart phone is expensive. Yet I did so for far below the price of a hipster iGadget. Now you and the other sparky have continually posted FUD articles about Fire Phones yet they work and do.all the things that hipster phones do but without paying the hipster price. Like you said early I got a good deal. But hipsters are much more worried about being hip and having the hippest hipster gAdgets and the really amusing part is that these hip gAdgets will all be worth bupkiss in less than five years. Oh and your “advertising platform” comment is really amusing when one considers it was made by an Applebot. Hahaha laters sparky.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge Apple fan. I have spent a lot of money with Apple and regret none of it. But the Apple Watch just doesn't seem to me to have the market potential of an iPhone or even an iPad. Yet it seems like it is the next BIG THING from Apple. Personally I hope not. I just don't see it being a game changer in the wearable market.
Time will tell.
All that is true. But that doesn’t justify claiming the price of the car is the down payment.
The Apple Watch is going to be like the iPhone. The iPhone of 2007 is nothing like what we have now. That phone is a Model T compared to the Ferrari that we have today in the iPhone. But at the time it came out, it was AMAZING! But taking it from “today’s perspective” ... it’s really “ho-hum”!
This is how the Apple Watch is going to be. It’s pretty amazing in having that kind of interaction and functionality right on your wrist, almost without anyone else even seeing that you’re interacting with it. But in the next 7 years, that Apple Watch is going to turn into a much more amazing device than it would even seem to be now, and be the “Ferrari” of the future.
It might also be a sort of “paradigm shift” and something that we can’t even imagine the future of how it will turn out.
