A San Francisco deputy public defender was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon at the Hall of Justice after she asked why city police officers were questioning her client outside a courtroom, the public defender’s office said Wednesday.
Attorney Jami Tillotson was handcuffed to a bar in a Southern Police Station holding area located at the Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St. for an hour following what public defender’s office spokeswoman Tamara Barak Aparton called “blatant intimidation” by several police officers.
Police officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Tillotson’s client had just made an appearance in Department 17 on the second floor with a co-defendant for a misdemeanor shoplifting charge when he left the courtroom and began getting questioned by a plainclothes police officer, Aparton said.

How can anyone argue about this? we have very basic info and a short video. There is not enough information contained in the video or the text to tell exactly what happened. I only see one side of the story and a video segment that does not cover then entire encounter. We don’t even know why they wanted pictures. What if this guy was wanted for something else and they knew he was coming to court that day. Obviously I’m speculating here, point is no one knows the whole story.. how the hell can we argue about it yet?
False arrest?? sounds like Felony Kidnapping to me.

Only illegal if they are under arrest
no at any time you want council you are allowed council; a police officer is not allowed to question anyone who wants council if they have requested it.
They were taking his picture in a public place in a case not related to why he was there in the first place.
He never requested council nor was he questioned

What “steps” should be taken in that case?
Nobody...not even cops...can be allowed to break the law.If,by chance,that cop committed a crime in questioning that person where he did and when he did then prosecution should be contemplated.If,OTOH,what he did wasn't a crime then that lawyer,IMO,can go bleep herself.It ain't rocket science.
