Few people drive that far in a day.
For a commuting drive, the range is more than sufficient.
Maybe not any electric car, but with its 285 mile range, the car in the video can do it as long as you are willing to make a 40 minute pit stop. Who is going to drive for seven hours and not stop for a bite to eat? Tesla has Superchargers dotting the interstate (click the link and scroll down) that charge the car to 80% in 40 minutes. With one such stop you could drive over 500 miles in a day.
Furthermore, the supercharger stations are being upgraded from 120 kW to 135 kW so that people can get more juice in a shorter period of time.
