Tesla Model S P85D 'Insane' Mode: NSFW Video Shows How Insane It Really Is
Green Car Reports ^ | January 28, 2015 | John Voelcker

Many Tesla fans and electric-car drivers now know about the Model S P85D, Tesla's all-wheel-drive electric car that's arguably the fastest four-door sedan on the market.

What most of them likely don't know is just what the car's ultimate performance mode, called "Insane," actually feels like.

Now there's a video out from Drag Times that shows how astoundingly, jaw-dropping, amazingly, startlingly, incredibly insane the Insane mode actually is.

NOTE: Video is NSFW, has rude words (delivered in tones of shock, horror, awe, amazement, and joy).

With 1.3 million views in three days, the reactions to Drag Times CEO Brooks Weisblat's demonstration of standing-start acceleration pretty much speak for themselves (above).

The Tesla would fit your needs for 100k plus. Unlimited mileage 8 year battery and powertrain warranty too if that makes any difference.

From my perspective it's a very cool car but short of winning a (very large) lottery there are other cars I would prefer.

You will not respond to the link I provided, where he said that Tesla would not be profitable until 2020. It is said there black and white.I can’t help that you can’t read or understand simple text. I also can’t help the fact you are making a fool of yourself.

Almost seems like there are paid shills for Tesla on here, including one that can not understand a Musk black and white direct quote around company profitability.

The 928 was lucky to pull in the 14’s.

used 89 928s4 +supercharger + intercooler + head gasket + 1 bar + ems + exhaust + 18x11 rears + aluminum artiste + shop time == $80k == 562 wheel hp dyno-ed. Everything else stock or stock-alike, but I kept breaking torque tubes. And fretted over the cylinder walls. The transaxle never complained a bit.

Probably never gonna do that again. but it was fun while it lasted (ie until my ex-wife found out how much it cost)

There are several people who act like paid shills for some company on this site.

Impressive, the technology is getting much better. But still is there a cost analysis of filling a gas tank vs the electric meter spinning so much faster while charging?

In fact I wonder if that instant torque isn't particularly dangerous on icy roads that I drive on for 4 months of every year.

What you witnessed was the "insane mode". For your driving needs they have the "granny mode"........LOL!

“You will not respond to the link I provided”

I gave you quotes and links to two reports of Tesla profits. You have not responded to either.

“Impressive, the technology is getting much better. But still is there a cost analysis of filling a gas tank vs the electric meter spinning so much faster while charging?”

I did a cost analysis comparing the Chevy Volt vs the similarly sized Chevy Cruze a couple of week ago. It was lengthy, but the summary is that running the Volt on electricity cost 4.3¢ per mile, whereas the Cruze cost 7.1¢ per mile with gasoline at $2.14/gal. With gas at $3.00/gal the Cruze cost 10¢ per mile.

Many utilities also offer time-of-use electricity plans that give you discounted nighttime charging, which is when most people charge their cars anyway. All EVs provide a way for you to enable “delayed charging” so that instead of charging starting when you plug it in, it can start later when your discounted rate begins. That can bring the electric cost down to 2¢ per mile.

Formula race cars use capacitors/flywheels to give a little extra boost.

And that's probably exactly how you make regenerative braking work in the real world.

Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough? You already have blown any credibility here by not being able to read simple English. You are past dumbass status as far as I am concerned.

Musk was directly quoted that Tesla will not be profitable until 2020. If you can't get that through your thick skull, go argue with the man himself, or go get the therapy/medical attention that you seriously need.

Or.....read and repeat 5 times if your problem is unfortunately dementia.

You guys are just using two different ways of measuring profit. Both are accurate in their respective contexts. What is the big deal?

Geez.

“Why can’t they just build a electric motor-driven AWD car with a small turbo-4cyl, one big battery for starting the gas engine, and as an ‘electric spring’ for the drive motors...and use a bunch of large capacitors for acceleration? No battery pack...no charging, best of both worlds. I think their using electric motors as a ‘transmission’ as they do in hybrids, is brilliant.”

Well, along a similar vein, Audi is coming out with an AWD “e-Quattro” plug-in hybrid that will have a significantly smaller battery than the Volt but with a lot more total horsepower. The ICE and two electric motors add up to a respectable 408 hp.
