Megyn Kelly smacks down Bill O’Reilly after NYT profile: “Jealousy is an ugly emotion, Bill”
Salon ^ | January 27, 2015 | Luke Brinker, Salon's deputy politics editor

Posted on 01/28/2015 2:54:53 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

As occasional sparring partners over issues like white privilege and income inequality, Fox News anchors Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly are accustomed to not always seeing matters the same way. So it was that the two stars of Roger Ailes’ network parted ways over a recent New York Times Magazine profile of Kelly. The largely glowing piece, by the magazine’s Jim Rutenberg, depicts Kelly as a serious, hard-charging journalist, unlike some people featured on the nation’s premiere conservative network.

During Monday night’s “O’Reilly Factor,” the host dinged Rutenberg’s profile as a “puff piece,” bemoaning that other Fox personalities don’t receive such favorable treatment from the Gray Lady. Kelly, unsurprisingly, wasn’t as down on the piece as her colleague.

“Now, Miss Megyn was the subject of a New York Times puff piece yesterday,” O’Reilly began.

“Look, the New York Times, I can’t remember them ever saying anything good about anybody on this channel,” he continued.

“Jealousy is an ugly emotion, Bill,” Kelly — who has started to beat O’Reilly in the crucial 25-54 age demographic — interjected.

Reemphasizing that Kelly receives more favorable media treatment than others at Fox, O’Reilly speculated it was because she is “charming.”

“Oh my God, it’s on camera — this is awesome,” Kelly said of O’Reilly’s compliment. “Another puff piece, right now, is happening at this moment.”

Kelly proceeded to insist that Rutenberg’s profile was indeed fair and balanced, to coin a phrase.

To be sure, O’Reilly did have something of a point. Rutenberg’s profile largely glided over some of the more unsavory aspects of Kelly’s journalism — her hyping of the phony “New Black Panther” voter fraud conspiracy theory, her role in fomenting Benghazi hysteria, her disturbing pattern of mainstreaming some of the most vile and hateful voices in America’s public debate — in the service of hailing Kelly as a different kind of Fox anchor.

Given Rutenberg’s near-reverential description of a handful of fearless, truth-telling “Megyn moments” — known elsewhere as “journalism moments” — O’Reilly was well within his bounds in dubbing Rutenberg’s profile a “puff piece.” Somehow, that doesn’t make Kelly’s gentle-yet-piercing response to the blowhard any less delicious.

Big bucks perhaps, but MSNBC is where careers go to die.

Agree 100%. He's a blowhard who lives to hear the sound of his own voice. Even his friend and business partner Dennis Miller gets exasperated with it at times.

Megyn Kelly and I were in one of the same classes at Syracuse University way back when, and she was a tough cookie then as well. I'm very happy for her success.

I like Kelly - she has done some revealing interviews with some power lefties and exposed some of the many lies we hear from WDC, and is an excellent commentator. I think she clearly s conservative, whereas Shep - not so.

I agree. And I'm so glad to see you're balls aren't deflated in this regard. You are correct. No one seems pure enough for some of these nitpickers. They are prone to strike out at anyone that has any hint of a human flaw. And, of course, their bathroom mirrors would be shattered if they ever managed to look at themselves in the morning.

I like Megyn Kelly, regardless of what some far-left, NYFishWrap of a newspaper says about her, good or bad. I actually saw this exchange between the two Fox News personalities. It was done in their usual friendly, tit-for-tat rivalry banter that they engage in. Salon is trying to make it sound like there is a real rift between the O'Blusterer and Kelly. They are trying to make it sound like something it wasn't. That's what the liberal press does. That tactic works only if we fall for it.

This entire paragraph is venomous:

“Rutenberg’s profile largely glided over some of the more unsavory aspects of Kelly’s journalism — her hyping of the phony “New Black Panther” voter fraud conspiracy theory, her role in fomenting Benghazi hysteria, her disturbing pattern of mainstreaming some of the most vile and hateful voices in America’s public debate — in the service of hailing Kelly as a different kind of Fox anchor. “

Yes, it is hateful, venomous, and untrue. It is a attempt by the left to marginalize legitimate disagreement with their progressive position. I would discount the whole article as liberal propaganda.

I just cannot watch O’Reilly any more than I can watch Obama or Michael Moore.

Her barely disguised glee on election night when they called it for Obooboo.

1. her hyping of the phony “New Black Panther” voter fraud conspiracy theory,

Actually, it wasn't a voter fraud conspiracy theory, it's the fact that Eric Holder quashed the New Black Panther voter intimidation lawsuit, which the DOJ had already won. Voter intimidation is ok if conducted by people of the politically correct color under Obama.

2.her role in fomenting Benghazi hysteria,

Reporting on Benghazi while her betters ignore it is fomenting hysteria apparently.

3. her disturbing pattern of mainstreaming some of the most vile and hateful voices in America’s public debate

Really, like giving Al Sharpton a show. No one is named, so there's no response to this generic liberal smear tactic. We are left to fill in the blanks ourselves.

And I don't see this liberal shift in Kelly and O'Reilly is O'Reilly. Both have been very successful and have never claimed to be orthodox conservatives. They both perform to the benefit of Americans.

pretending hostility toward a subject which the network wishes to promote...

O'Reilly spent years as the "network announcer" the utility infielder of the business, so he knows the drill.

He is also a complete fake. He is the Designated Democrat Operative, whose role is to keep the dwindling number of "Blue-Collar Working Class Catholics" left in the country* within the Democrat Party fold. He is a reach-out to the Daily News reader of the 1950s.

O'Reilly is first and foremost, a highly partisan Democrat who has never, that's NEVA, endorsed a Republican Candidate for anything, much less voted for one. If Jesus Christ were running for Mayor of NYC on the Republican ticket, and Lucifer as the Democrat, O'Reilly would vote for Satan. Twice.

*Many Catholics, especially the older ones, still believe they are voting for Harry s. Truman and that one can be a patriot and a Democrat at the same time. BTW, the Democrat Left Wing Leadership openly despises them .... and O'Reilly.

I can't recall him ever endorsing anyone, R or D.

Lazmataz has been on record, for a long time, that he "would hit that". When Megan blushes, it makes her look more viscerally hot...
