This year - got the shot, got the flu 2-3 days later.
Got the flu again 6 weeks later.
Very true Oblomov, but those statistics showing markedly decreased effectiveness of flu vaccine in those who have been previously vaccinated against other strains are concerning - if true. They suggest something worse than lack of effectiveness. They suggest a blunting of the immune response - along the lines of what allergists are attempting to do with desensitization. That said, I would have to see a lot more data from credible sources.
Why not Tamiflu? Kid would probably be alive today if they had prescribed that.

“Increased risk of non-influenza respiratory virus infections associated with receipt of inactivated influenza vaccine”
Well disregard my previous post. I should know better than to comment before reading the entire article.
I wonder how long she had symptoms before they took her in. Or if there were any other underlying health issues
possibly even undiscovered.
Hear, hear.
If you have ever read anything about the Spanish Flu outbreak in 1918, you will remember to get a flu shot every year.
2% of the world’s population died from the Spanish Flu in 1918.
There is no way to predict odd strains. They don’t occur until flu season.
“Did he also tell you that insurance companies cut payments to their practice if less than 95% of their patients follow the official schedule?”
Do you have a reliable source for that nonsense?
She could have had it already.
The family pediatrician.
And other doctors as well.
Getting the flu twice is nearly impossible because of antibodies created by having the flu. I would get to my doctor ASAP to check for immune deficiency.
Thanks Black Agnes. Interesting paper.
It’s unlikely she was vaccinated this late in the game. Kids get flu shots when they go back to school.
WELL ... it doesn’t do much good NOT taking the flu shot either. I haven’t taken one (ever) and I still get the flu anyway. This year it just about killed me ... And three different times during the course of this flu. I was about to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital. It’s been 3-1/2 weeks and I’m still not over it (although getting gradually better now). I think next year I’ll get my first ever flu shot ... :-) ...
The first ‘flu’ might have been vaccine related.
The anecdotal ‘I got the flu shot and x days later was sicker than I’d ever been’ may have basis in fact.
The flu is generally spread by coughing/airborne methods. That’s why people wear masks in public during pandemics. One doctor studying Spanish Flu caught it when an infected ferret sneezed in his face. Ferrets are good test subjects for human flu.
Note to readers: There is no such thing as “stomach flu”. A lot of people get confused by that. Those types of viruses ARE spread by contact. We had Norovirus go through our local Scout camp. Wicked!
Nope, money didn’t come up at all.
