McManus is a mechanical engineer and his wife Mairee is a surgical physician's assistant, as well as the primary earner. He breaks out his budget by week. In 2014, they brought home an average after-tax household income of $14,735 a month.
In the chart below, check out their average monthly spending for 2013, 2014, and predicted for 2015. Note that these are averages, so a single month isn't depicted.

again sorry, I misread that entire chart
I thought the income was yearly, but the bills were monthly (no idea why I assumed that)
That’s $15,000 a MONTH, $180,000 per YEAR, AFTER taxes. Pretaxes, probably around $225,000 per YEAR.
These guys make $180,000 a year.
Looks like they like expensive cars. I sure never paid anything like that a month in payments.
Thwir housing is actually reasonable considering their jobs probably keep them in an expensive area. Everything else is too high. They should cut their food budget in half and their entertainment budget is ridiculous.
Yes, I read it as annual, not monthly, too.
Yes, they are doing great. I just misread the chart and thought they had all those monthly expenses on only $15,000 in income a year :)
I just totally messed up when I glanced at the chart (and hadn’t bothered to read the article yet)
Agreed. Could buy reliable, used cars, have no car payments and give the amount saved to church/charity or whatever. Sacrifice a little status (not have the latest, greatest) but sacrifice NOTHING in lifestyle.
It’s all relative but you could get that monthly payment by financing a $25,000 car for five years at 3%.
Not saying it’s smart or anything but it shows you don’t have to have a BMW to have monthly car payments such as those.
All is forgiven, happens to the best of us. Pointing out your error sure took over this thread.
There Out to Eat expenses are way too low. What? They eat out once a week? I guess that’s possible.
Then I see their Entertainment expenses. Now THAT is high. (But not for their income.)
Good catch.
Who are these people? The Bidens?
If they live in CA, $400K is a hut.
I bet you my spreadsheet budget tracker is more complex than theirs!
“hich means they are living in a $400,000 home while only earning $15,000 !”
That would be $180,000 per year. They make roughly $15,000 per month.
Please disregard my previousl post.
And 180k isn't exactly "burning piles of money for the hell of it in the living room" level of income either. It's comfortable and only in some areas of the country.
Given their income, it appears that they don’t save enough.
Oh yes, I see ... it’s per month. In that case, forget it.
the 40% tax load not list would be where
