Electric powertrains are 90% efficient with regenerative braking.

At best gasoline powertrains are 25% efficient.

Prius, with hybrid battery system, is 30% efficient.

A Tesla P85D will do 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and 11.5 1/4 mile.

And can fit 5 adults plus 2 children with optional jumper seats.

And does not aid in transferring $1 Trillion dollars in wealth from the West to Czar Vladimir and Islamic Terrorist.

I believe we get less than 10% of our oil from the Middle East and Russia.

Electric cars are going to be very much like flat screen monitors and TV’s.

One of these days - out of the blue - they’ll work better and be cheaper. And when that happens suddenly there will be a massive transition to electric cars.

If you don't count the whole fuel to wheels system. Most of the energy from the original fuel didn't leave the power plant, more was lost along the way to home, charging system, etc...

Reaganez, summarizing thackney’s point, you’ve conveniently left out powerplant efficiency and transmission losses. These are nontrivial omissions, especially the first.

There is a “lies, damn lies, and statistics” sort of case to be made here.

Ultimately, the owner/operator typically really cares little about thermodynamic efficiency. Make the case for the vehicle on real costs, without subsidies, and all the B.S. tends to evaporate.
