Oh I see no big issue...they’ve had the lineage down to a science for eons.

The issues will be how much will the change affect the US and others influence in the region. Now tht will be interesting.

in my mind the easily conceived model for Saudi Governence is a corporate board of directors

The king serves as chairman and has strong powers but he has the board to contend with

There are of course no stock holders to elect the board, but neverthe less, collectively they govern

It is hard to prognosticate the implications of this, since he was old, his successor was probably chosen long ago, and it could be anything from a non-eventful transition of power that hardly makes the news, to a civil war, to anything in-between. They say the hardest thing to predict is the future.

....”Abdullah was Pro-America and actually fought against extremists. He was one of the good guys”....

Yes if any of them can be considered “good guys” really. Allies's might better be said.

Wikipedia—I know, I know—states he possibly suffers from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Just what we need in that powder keg.

It all depends on how strong Crown Prince Salman is. He’s almost 80. If he pops off soon, there could be a blowout with his sons vs. King Abdullah’s sons.

The Saudis have transferred power in an orderly manner for an incredibly long time, for Arabs. They’re long overdue for a family bloodbath.

I read something that the supposedly chosen Prince for sucession is less Pro-United States than the newly departed King. Wish I remember where I read it.

In any case, just one more reason to build the damn pipeline and get the US off the OPEC spigot.

Yemen is about to go Shiite. The KSA is Sunni. Sunni and Shiite don’t mix. Even if Islam gets its way and kills all the non-believers, they will then re-arm and go after each other.

Very, very rapidly, the ME is going Shiite. ISIS is a militant Shiite group.

Looks like they were headed for a side cheek kiss. I doubt Bush ever instigated this but was following custom. He also held his hand at times as the King was unsteady.

At least Bush kissed and held hands. Obola was bowing! Bush was a mistress, Obola was a slave.
