The Congressional Budget Office says legislation the House will pass this week to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy would lead to an increase in the budget deficit of at least $235 million over the next decade, and perhaps as much as half a billion dollars.
The CBO released a report Tuesday for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, H.R. 36, which the House will consider on Thursday. That bill aims to ban abortions after 20 weeks, and is based on evidence that a fetus can feel pain once it reaches that age. CBOs report assumes that if the legislation were to become law, about three-quarters of the abortions that might normally happen after 20 weeks would happen earlier, in order to comply with the law.
But it also assumes that the remaining quarter of people who dont get an earlier abortion would give birth. CBO said that means higher Medicaid costs related to childbirth over a ten-year period.
Depending on the number of additional births under H.R. 36, such Medicaid costs could range from about $100 million over the next 10 years to nearly $500 million over that period, CBO said.
CBO settled on an estimate of $235 million.

illegal aliens
Great reason to commit murder. Sad, so very sad.
Welfare queens
B...b...but it’s.....Fur the CHEEELRUN! How can you worry about normal concerns when CHEELRUN are involved??? (I love it when liberal shibboleths bite THEM in the ass!)
illegals don’t pay taxes. Babies saved from abortion do.
Since when did these ass hats start caring about the budget deficit?
Kill the unborn; save $$ - thoroughly evil
Well, there goes another reason to not always believe what the Congressional Butchery Office says.
Always a gray cloud in a blue sky.
Where do these people come from anyway?
Only in the states that accepted Obamacare which the CBO once declared cutting deficits.
Good - libs love spending (other people’s) money.
We’d spend more money on newborns instead of killing them?
Worth every penny.
Actually, on a level of principal, this destruction of the family, which abortion is a big part of, but only a part, the worst part, by a longshot, is what’s screwing up the economy and the deficit. On so many levels
The people running our economic policies are idiotic
That’s a big problem there
If raising our own children is so bad then why do they tell us that our low birthdate is why we have to import Mexicans by the millions and give them government benefits?
They are not just idiotic, they are evil and acting with malicious intent.
So let me understand this right..according to the CBO, they are happy about murdering babies because it will cost the country less money..how do these people sleep at night
Yes. Promoting abortion is evil. By definition
They can rationalize that aborting them means we don’t have to pay for the cost of imprisoning them for the bulk of their miserable lives. At least, that is the charitable form of how they rationalize it.
$235 million over this period of time is only 7% of Obama’s proposed tax increases....I’d rather spend my money saving babies than killing them.
