Say "P85D" to Tesla owners and fans, and you will see the drooling and twitching and heavy breathing and lustful stares--and more drooling--that Tesla's fastest, highest-performance electric car brings.
The same happens with the word "Hellcat" for fans of high-powered Hemi V-8 performance.
Now, courtesy of two owners--each convinced that their car is the fastest, baddest beast on the road--we know what happens when the two cars face off on the drag strip.
Two days ago at Palm Beach International Raceway, a Tesla Model S P85D and a 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat competed in the traditional quarter-mile drag race.
Hint: It's no contest. At all. And the quieter car wins decisively.
...
And, now, can we please stop with the "wimpy electric golf car" stuff?

You don’t have to - no. I have four.
That was all driver error. I still can’t believe an electric car with 700Hp went that slow on the top end. I have had stock 70s pickups that Quartered faster.
If Mercedes would update the W123 for the modern day somehow, they’d sell millions. I can’t kill mine, though I try.
I know a guy who had a bit more money than he knew what to do with. He likes to drive fast... and he bought a Tesla. He laughed when I asked about the 200 mile battery life, though. He said the way he drives, it’s more like 80.
The Tesla has a 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds, the fastest of any four-door production car in the world. I think you are in some serious denial if you want to call it a “slow pig.”
I think there is a 12-step program that might help with that.
So you like to contaminate what God bestowed on us just to spite California liberals?
Seems silly.
“in order to be a conservative you have to bathe yourself in crude oil every morning.”
As opposed to the coal fired Tesla.
The race is pathetic.
Assuming the drivers were of equal ability ecar fans could claim that it shows it takes less skill to dragrace an ecar.
Where, exactly, do you think the electricity comes from to recharge a Tesla?
At equivalent levels of technological maturity and manufacturing volume, the electric vehicle should be much less maintenance intensive. There's no crankcase, no air filter, no radiator ... electric motors are fairly low maintenance. Brakes and tires will still be issues. The batteries will eventually have to be replaced. And the batteries are still the biggest problem ... which the fanboys try to obfuscate.
Where did I say contaminate anything? And I certainly don’t contaminate what God bestowed on us. And spiteful treatment of Cali liberals is just another service I provide.
Yeah, that stinks. I guess 10.7 et and about 128 are the publicized stats on strip tires.
Still mediocre compared to a top-flight street bike.
I hope you understand that the part I put in italics was a quote from LogicDesigner.
Yep-driver error. It needs a do-over.
they may not make a profit, but their revenue is increasing. They could make a profit right now if they stop investing/developing the business and building superchargers all around the world. You need to look into the details as to why they’re not making a profit, not simply conclude its a bad company because its now profitable. Amazon is a great company yet they don’t make much profit
Of course sir! And this is all good fun for me!
I will accept either of these cars for an in-depth evaluation next summer.
From power companies.
At a miniscule amount of increase to national power consumption as compared to oil shipment, refining, and shipment again before it makes it to your local gas station where it’s made available to you.
My wife does that comin outta the garage!!
