Glenn Beck watched Selma and believes he knows why the critically-acclaimed civil rights film was snubbed by the Academy in multiple Oscar categories next week: progressivism.

And if you haven’t seen the film, here’s the spoiler-free explanation of how LBJ is portrayed: like a politician.

Those who are even old enough to remember what happened in 1965 certainly do not still idealize LBJ. That he was a scumbag politician who cared nothing for blacks except their votes has been an open secret forever and the progressives have known it from the start. I think the race merchants are right, liberal Hollywood never actually cares about blacks (or anyone else, except their own wonderful selves.)

That having been said, while rumor has it that the film is a good one, I won't be watching it. I saw it the first time and didn't like it much.

Didn’t a bunch of the people that awarded “12 years a slave” admit they never watched it?

80% of the population was not alive when Selma was a big issue, that is why it is a non starter at the box office. Everyone by now knows the story, they have had it jammed down their throats in schools since 1970. We won WW2, when was the last world war 2 movie made, besides Saving Pvt Ryan which was a made up story.

UNBROKEN is a WWII movie and it was nominated for awards this year.

The American public voted with their wallets. They spanked Selma, and lavished praise on American Sniper. This is what really counts.

Nig Flick
A movie that is usually directed by a totally inexperienced director who makes a horrible movie with the moral being based on great triumphs. It revolves around the protagonist a “poor black man” trying to make it somewhere in the world and starts to pursue his dream such as dancing or rapping to support his family. Good examples include “You Got Served,” “ATL,” and “Stomp The Yard.” However, there are other “nig flicks” that are awesome movies, even though it is highly unlikely. An exception would be “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

Nobody wanted to pay good see a nig flic propaganda piece

There are great movies all the time that don’t get any nomination! Why should anyone feel this one so much is entitled to for all kinds of awards?

You do realize that WIKI is not exactly a neutral source, and often slants toward the opinions of the editor who has control over the subject?

“If health issues had not come up...I suspect he would have run in 1968,

Not a chance. Opposition to the Vietnam war was rising in the Democrat party. The Tet Offensive had just occurred and Walter Cronkite declared the war “lost”. Cities had been burning all over the country in rioting after Martin Luther King’s assassination. Eugene McCarthy challenged Johnson and nearly beat him in the New Hampshire primary. Robert Kennedy announced his candidacy. Johnson was a spent force and he knew it.

“The riots began after I had left, being stoked by “visitors from the North.””

I see a lot of similarities between the events in Ferguson and those back in Selma. It’s not the locals in Ferguson who have been stoking the fires. And someone from outside is paying the organizers to be there. Soros in the case of Ferguson.

I had cousins living in Selma back then. I’ve never seen a good reason why Selma was targeted by the civil rights organizers. It hardly seemed like a city that would attract a lot of attention.

Were you stationed at Craig AFB?

LBJ was not on the hard left. He was a New Deal Liberal and his Great Society was just more of FDR’s soft socialism.

Johnson was a Cold Warrior anti-communist which is why he was willing to continue the fight in South Vietnam. The hard left hated him and you can see LBJ hung in effigy in pictures of antiwar demonstrations.

Actually, LBJ was a hard left socialist/communist including his “Great Welfare Socialism” programs that has cost American taxpayers $20 TRILLION in wasted money.

btw, FDR was another hard left communist and was just as responsible as Stalin for the dark communism that fell on Eastern Europe after WW2.

The “hard left” wanted the radical LBJ to be more radical.

I know...I was there.

I’m old enough to have watched LBJ in action as well. We will just have to agree to disagree. The mainstream of liberals were anticommunist and LBJ was one them. That didn’t stop them from pushing the welfare state. The Communist Left supported Hanoi, Cuba, and the USSR. That hardly fits Johnson.
