This a Larousse French dictionary from 1939. In the appendix it lists all the then current flags of the world in alphabetical order. Youll notice that for Germany at that time the flag was the Nazi one replete with Zwastika which proves that this was pre-1945 ( before 1945) ! .
Now, alphabetically, look for the Palestinian Flag. YES , there is one. What does it look like? Surprised? Oh, but you thought (Mandate Jewish) Palestine was an Islamic Arab-,Turkish-, Circassian Sovereign State that the bad Jews took over , right?
Confused?
From 1920-1948 a ( class A Mandate) State of Palestine existed as per international law but it was, as all of its major institutions, Jewish. Until the 1960s, name Palestine resonated as something Jewish to peoples ears. The 4,000 year old Jewish homeland or Land of Israel or the Holy Land were all synonymous!!
The British as legal Mandatory over the Mandate managed or mismanaged the state partially with Jewish Auxilary until Jews regained official sovereignty in 1948, by declaring independence.
The U.N. did not recreate Israel as some people claim.

Yes, and so things went very much better and less bloodily for the Jews when they did declare themselves a state, and independent of the Mandate.
It's too bad that they killed as many British soldiers as they did, who were their original benefactors under Allenby, to get what they wanted. Lots of Jews, British, and Arabs died in 1947-48, and nothing will erase that.
Israeli history ping.
The west felt guilty that they let the Nazis kill 6 million—so they gave the Jews some land of their own.
Something Every FReeper should know.
This is also why I treasure a set of 1920's encyclopedias I liberated from a trash bin.
It shows what people thought and felt at the time.
Not yet—When they take over the cross of St. George will be removed and a star and cresent will replace it.
LOL
After the Roman "Philistia", which I believe is roughly the area of the Gaza Strip.
Since the Philistines seem to have assimilated into the general Canaanite culture of the area long before the 5th century B.C., when it was part of the Persian Empire, it seems likely that earlier rulers of the area such as Assyrians or Babylonians had a designation derived from the name of the Philistines (or they would have been forgotten--the Persians and others weren't reading the books of the Bible which mention the Philistines).
.
The flags are in alphabetical order with one exception. The United States is sandwiched between Estonia and Ethiopia.
The original area inhabited by the Philistines was somewhat larger than the Gaza Strip—it included Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath (Goliath’s home town), Ekron and some other places. See I Samuel 5-6 for when the Ark of the Covenant was in the possession of the Philistines—a classic NIMBY story. Each town that had it couldn’t wait to get rid of it.
Those pesky French! It's as if they have a different word for everything!
The US is in the right place for the French, between Estonia and Ethiopia—Etats-Unis d’Amerique.
As an aside, I can remember when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s, the words, Israel and Palestine, were interchangeable for most Americans. We considered them to be different names for the same place.
PING
The German flag, which caught my eye because of its position on the page and (of course) its design, is in the top row under "Allemagne."
Also see Pays-Bas, St-Siège, and Tchécoslovaquie.
So-called Palestinians were showing up in Ferguson. They want to divide this nation. They believe blacks can be their useful idiots.
They want to establish “No Go” zones right here like they have in Europe.
They want to establish No Go zones right here like they have in Europe.
I would say we put them to the test.
It's a French publication. Isn't the United States referred to as Etats Unis in French?

Coinage in English, Arabic and Hebrew. The Palestine Post now the Jerusalem Post, the Anglo-Palestine Bank now Bank Leumi. And then there's the Palestinian Mandate Football (Soccer) Team. Used by some sites to prove there was a Palestine as they represented Palestine in international competition. Notable in Australia from which video exists. There's even an anti-Zionist Facebook page called Australia VS Palestine, 1939. Never mentioned, the alternate name, Nivheret Eretz Yisrael Bekhadurgel, Land of Israel national football team. Nor the fact that the players were all, well, European Jews. Arabs welcome, but refused to play since the team represented western values. There's a wiki page with some pics and rosters. As any reading of mandate documents will show, Palestine did exist, it was the Jewish Homeland.
