LOS ANGELES (AP) Responding for the first time to the firestorm of criticism over the lack of diversity in this year's Oscar nominations, film academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs says the all-white acting slate inspires her to accelerate the academy's push to be more inclusive. She also hopes the film industry as a whole will continue to strive for greater diversity.
The first black president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences spoke out Friday night in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press about the Oscar nominations and the widespread criticism that followed.

Revrunt sharpton performing his most bizarre speechifications, with the Darth Vader voice.....PRICELESS, MUCH!
he may well par;ay this into gettin his first starring role....
Imagine “Black Men Dont Wear Plaid” Starring Revrunt Sharpton
ahahah YES n what a wonderful example it were.
Please excuse the misspelled names:
Last year: 12 Years A Slave (best picture), Steve McQueen (director - a black man), Chiwetle Ojowar (sp?) - nominated for best actor (black guy); Barkhad Abji - nominated for best supporting actor (black guy); Lupita Nyongo - Best Actress (black woman)
In 2013 Denzel Washington was nominated for Best Actor, Django Unchained nominated for Best Picture, Qwevenzane Wallis nominated for Best Actress.
so what's the problem, Al?
And every year now some movie - actor - actress gets nominated because the movie was about gay stuff and/or the actress and actor played a gay part.
Re: “Did a lot more people watch Twelve Years a Slave because it won an Oscar - NOPE”
Not in America, but internationally the Oscar Buzz clearly helped.
A moderate budget USA film typically gets about 50% of its gross from foreign countries.
“12 Years A Slave”
Domestic - $56.6 million
2013 USA Rank - #62
International - $131 million
Total Gross - $187.6 million
All Time Rank - Did not make Top 600
Boo hoo so sad.
yeah ya know the Utter Grief that ive been experiencing over this has just got to come to an end.
Oh, great...we’ll be treated to a bunch of bad overacted dramas that are depressing.
oh lord
I’m appallingly white and Al Sharpton thinks skin color should be the yardstick for judging success rather than merit.
In a way black racists like him have become everything they opposed during the Civil Rights days. And of course, there’s the shakedown aspect of it, too.
Its all phony.
hes beginning to look just a tad weary...
alas...
It;s usually about economics in Ho-wood. Pictures about black people or featuring black actors may not do so well at the box office.
The new movie Annie has a black playing Annie, doesn’t it? I guess that was ok with Hollywood.....
“”In 2013 Denzel Washington was nominated for Best Actor””
And he still complains that there aren’t any good roles for black actors!!!!! Unbelievable but apparently he’s a liberal so it’s acceptable.
