If evangelical Christianity is famous for anything in contemporary American politics, it is for its complete opposition to gay marriage. Now, slowly yet undeniably, evangelicals are changing their minds.
Every day, evangelical communities across the country are arriving at new crossroads over marriage. My magazine story for TIME this week, A Change of Heart, is a deep dive into the changing allegiances and divides in evangelical churches and communities over homosexuality. In public, so many churches and pastors are afraid to talk about the generational and societal shifts happening. But behind the scenes, its a whole different game. Support for gay marriage across all age groups of white evangelicals has increased by double digits over the past decade, according to the Public Religion Research Institute, and the fastest change can be found among younger evangelicalstheir support for gay marriage jumped from 20% in 2003 to 42% in 2014.

Time should have entitled this “How People who CLAIM to be Evangelicals....”
Well said. How many of us who proclaim to be Christian are truly willing to be a martyr. suffer ridicule or incur economic loss in defense or promotion of their beliefs?
Absolutely correct. There are, of course, evangelicals who lose their faith. This article is not about that. It is about a lie liars lie. Evangelicals stop being evangelical when they condone immorality. TIME is leftist agitprop trash.
Wishful thinking from the pervert promoters.
Interesting concept, getting the state out of marriage. Interesting because why should the state actually have to “approve” a living arrangement/religious ceremony. Does the state give Baptism licenses or birth licenses or death licenses (not writs of execution inclusive). Having the state give fag unions a writ of legitimacy is ridicules IMO and in fact when they do they make it a socially approved behavior, not the divient species destructive behavior it is it only encourages such behavior. Perhaps we need redo all our laws especially in the tax and welfare areas which provide benefits based on unions. I bet that happens and the onus for these “unions” goes away.
Exactly. A true “believer” does not compromise their faith or the true Word, for how the world wants to try and redefine it.
For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. Jude 1:4
The Goebbels Factor.
Yes, you have hit the nail on the Head! “Evangelicals” who are true to the Scripture are not and have not changed their minds! Don’t be fooled by this writer garbage!
Which is why I am a fundamentalist, not an evangelical. And I’m part of a remnant of fundamentalists, at that, the kind who still believe in separatism from worldliness.
Yet the evangelicals gave fundamentalists grief for being mlitant.
True Christians will never succmb to the “banwagon effect”, because pratically everything about true Christianity is opposed to this world, and that’s supposed to be one of the hallmarks of Chrstianity, opposition to the world.
FWIW, I went to the web site of the SINGLE “evangelical” church this agitprop cited. Frankly, if you read their “what we believe” page.....Uh, it really doesn’t strike one as “evangelical”.
And the quotes from the “pastor” of this place, a 36-year old kid, show a marked lack of knowledge regarding truth.
> They are NOT changing their minds, instead theyve simply lost the will to fight.
The other side is RELENTLESS in taking down our society - and as they push, people simply get tired of having to keep pushing back.
Bingo! It’s like a child that keeps crying and whining to get their way. The weak parent gives in and lets them have their way and ends up with a spoiled brat years later that’s immature who despises them, doesn’t repect their authority and in some cases even kills them.
Amen brother, nice to meet another one! I was wondering if I was the lone independent Baptist fundamentalist (the staunch, militant, separatist kind) at FR. For example, I consider Lester Roloff a hero.
The article is a lie designed to create the reality it lies about.
I consider it a badge of honor to be out of sync with the wickedness of this world, and couldn’t care less what they think about it. As if I should care what the sons of perdition think , who are in opposition to God Almighty.
Correct. The article is lie.
I still have hope. If the population of Evangelicals against abortion is growing, then there is a good chance that this article is wrong.
Getting the state out of marriage would also force serious social security reform.
