There are Gulf Coast refineries set up to refine heavy crude oil imported from Venezuela. These refineries can handle Canadian tar sands oil which is similar to Venezuelan oil. So the Canadian oil would compete with Venezuelan oil. Since transporting by pipeline is cheaper than moving it by ship, Canadian oil would have a price advantage. Venezuela supports Cuba. Who do we know is buddies with Cuba and Venezuela? Would he have an interest in blocking out competition to his buddies oil? Just asking?
