FOX News Channel's chief political anchor, Bret Baier, has shown himself to have a thinner skin than might be guessed from his on-air persona. Baier has caved in to pressure from the homosexual activist group Good as You to back out of a speaking engagement at a mainstream Catholic conference. Also backing out for the same reason was Hollywood actor Gary Sinise of Forrest Gump and CSI: NY fame.
The gay activist complaint is a repeat of last year when actor Bob Newhart was successfully bullied into backing out of his speaking engagement at the Legatus Summit.
Legatus, which was begun by Dominos Pizza founder Tom Monaghan in 1987 to network Catholic business leaders, is faithful to the Churchs Magisterium and therefore upholds the Churchs teachings on all moral matters including homosexuality.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church sees all people regardless of their sexual desires as children of God and deserving of respect. The Church however teaches that the sexuality is reserved for marriage, which is by definition the free, faithful, and fruitful lifelong union of a man and woman.
LifeSiteNews confirmed the cancellations with Legatus but Sinise did not respond to questions about their withdrawals.
A FOX News spokesperson told LifeSiteNews that Baier pulled out due to the controversy surrounding some editorial stances in the organizations magazine. The spokesperson added, Bret accepted the invitation to speak about his book, his faith, and his sons congenital heart disease. He was unaware of these articles or the controversy surrounding them.
On his Facebook page, Sinise wrote: For me, faith has been a catalyst for my mission to honor the men and women who serve in our nations military. He added, When I accepted the invitation to speak at the Legatus conference about Veterans issues and share my story, I was unaware of the controversy surrounding some of the participants, and their views on personal matters. I dont want my missionwhich is designed to be unifying.
In their material accusing Legatus of being an anti-gay Catholic org, Good as You highlighted a number of Legatus pro-life and pro-family activities and statements, such as its promotion of Pope Benedicts non-negotiable issues at the ballot box, one of which is same-sex marriage. They also quoted a piece from Legatus magazine by Dr. John Haas, president of the National Catholic Bioethics Center, where he discussed the possibility of overcoming same-sex attraction through therapy.
Sad that LifeSiteNews is taking this tact. Bret Baier and Gary Sinise act on principle. We are not getting the full story.
Or it could be they are more concerned about (in sinese’s case) supporting the troops, and the homo issue may not be as important to him as that to deal with the kickback. Being in showbiz I am sure with all the homosexuals at various levels, he could very well rather not stir things up if he doesn’t have to.
Just looks weak and capitulating, though.
Good points and agreed. I have been in the biz, too.
BTW it was funny. I never hid who I was. While most objected to my views, they universally wanted me on their side. And to a certain extent, they wanted my approval.
Hollywood is one wierd azz place.
PS Stayed in touch with a few of them. Those few have come around.
I am sure your good personality and regular friendliness probably made a huge difference. Some people can be overbearing no matter what side they’re on. I mean people here argue with others and half the time they are on the same side. Huge turnoff.
freedom of speech dies to the heckler’s veto
Captain Dan - you have legs!
WHERE the HELL has all the MEN gone???? Other than some Military guys, MOST have lost ALL their BALLS! They can’t stand up to a bunch of HOMOSEXUALS???? OMG!! they should be ASHAMED.
They’re free to pull out, but I feel it is unfortunate that the gay activists have here essentially succeeded in their effort to delegitimize the expression of orthodox Catholic teaching on sex and sexuality. That is exactly the aim of gay activists all across the culture these days, and it is working. And nobody it seems, including many bishops, are willing to stand up for Catholic teaching.
If I was asked to share the story of my son’s heart problems and how God worked in my life I sure wouldn’t let a gay group stop me from telling it. You’re right. It’s sad.
fascism by any other name would be as dictatorial.
“Fair, balanced, and unafraid”, eh, Bret?
>> backing out
The necessity of sodomy.
It’s the fear of political correctness — nothing else.
Ball-Less, that’s what they are!
Criticism and humiliation top the list of things people generally fear (with or without “balls.”)
Castigation is primarily driven by the MSM — the same MSM that is the Country’s greatest threat.
I hope I’m making sense...
Hypothetical - would the Church demand they not speak at a satirical, blaspheming newspaper?
Answer: no
Free speech is universal. Yeah.
Fox News has been drifting into the Country Club for awhile now.
Maybe it’s time for Legatus to stop inviting these silly entertainers to speak at its events.
