"The downtrodden man offered to work for a hot meal, but Meadows did him one better. He gave him a chicken sandwich and a pair of his own gloves. "

I see nothing "Christian" about what Meadows did. Nothing.

The homeless man wanted to work for his meal, he wasn't asking for a handout. The man did not receive what he asked for.

Was that chicken sandwich worth an hour's pay? nope.

The homeless man is the one who did the Christian thing. Meadows acted like the government giving a handout.

Would it make you feel better if he made the young man break rocks for an hour?

And why is the owner obligated to provide everyone who needs a job a job?

You’re simple wrong in your accusation the owner was not being charitable — and charitable on his own nickel nonetheless — not the taxpayers’ nickel as you implied.

Really? Meadows gave from his business, and his own gloves.

Government may hand stuff out, but it is other people's money all the way.

There's a bit of difference there.

And freely giving something while expecting nothing in return is Christian.

“Meadows acted like the government giving a handout.”

Did Meadows tax you to pay for it?
That would be the government way.

It's interesting you say that. I see the situation the opposite way.

Years ago the churches took care of the poor. The government began to take on that responsibility during the depression. The churches supported the government takeover.

As the government's role increased, the number of poor increased. Those looking for handouts joined the poor so we now have that 47% on the dole and half the school children getting free lunch.
