This column over the years has been interested in liberalism in a special way, as a coroner is interested in a corpse in a special way. Specifically I have been interested in the pathologies that laid the patient low. What precisely has been the cause of death?
The coroner asks what made a robust fellow a corpse. Was it a remorseless cancer or a tragic accident? Was it Huntingtons disease or something else, possibly, simple alcoholism? In the case of the liberal, the cause of death was almost certainly a massive overindulgence. Simply stated, the liberals attempted too much. They even attempted to solve problems that were not conventionally understood as problems. After all, there were no plausible solutions, for instance, for the elimination of poverty, which in America amounts to relative deprivation, not destitution. How can we solve a citizens relative deprivation?
As a result of liberalisms morbidity there are places in America where the liberal once thrived but now has completely vanished. Consider talk radio. I can remember back when the liberal completely dominated the medium. Back in the late 1950s, the 1960s, even in the 1970s, there were people like Jerry Williams in Boston and Irv Kupcinet in Chicago. Now they are gone.
Even when Al Gore summoned the lefts billionaires to subsidize talk radio with something called Air America the endeavor utterly failed. Talk radio is the domain of conservatives. So dominant are conservatives in radio that today talk radio has become a synonym for conservatism. Talk radio, the voices of the left admonish (there are no voices of liberalism remaining), is the enemy of Obamacare, of holding hands with moderate terrorists, of the minimum wage.

Jerry Williams was a liberal but not a nutcase when I called in to his show. Perhaps what liberalism and liberal talk show hosts needed was a bit of sanity and a willingness to listen to opposing views before commenting on them/subjects.
Liberals today are fanatics, extremists on the left, with a sparse or superficial knowledge of history, a refusal to face reality (i.e. delusional mindset), and super-egos that would make the Nazis and Nietsche so jealous.
There is also a smarminess among so many of them that it turns off most sane listeners. Try Rachel Maddow, Ed Schulz, Lawrence the red O’Donnell, and others, while Chris Matthews is just Democrat Party party-line sputtering fool.
Alan Colmes. As a Russian Jewish emigre’ once told me about those Jews who supported communism and the Soviet Union, “We too have our asses”. Alan “The Ass” Colmes. Has a nice and true sound to it. He is a nice guy but in the real world, this kind of nice guy is the first to face the firing squad of those enemies he refused to recognize.
Humor: If you don’t have a good sense of humor, especially skewering humor, you won’t last on radio. Rush Limbaugh can tell a “funny” and destroy his opposition target. Chris Plante it the master of “barbed humor”. Mark Levin just slices and dices with a smile and intelligence.
Alan West and John Bolton own the military diplomatic talk arena with facts and humor, while Malsberg, Prager, Hannity, Cunningham, Tammy Bruce, Ann Coulter (the queen of conservative humor), Laura and the grandfather of “polite skewing”, Tom Marr, make listening entertaining and informative.
Michael Savage is in a class (and sometimes), a world of his own, but when he’s on a roll, you get out of the way and enjoy the body count he leaves in his wake.
That is why the liberals can’t put on a person who is listenable to the conservative. They trade in invective, hate, false facts and disinformation, lack a real sense of humor, are egoistic, often crazy, arrogant and elitist.
If you were a business who wanted to advertise on a radio station/show, would you pick anyone from the Left?
From my point of view, I’d say, “Not with my money”.
Not a sermon, just a thought.
It doesn’t matter; even if you get hi-speed Internet, it still has to be served by a modem: (wireless) dial-up, DSL, fibre, cable, &c.
On talk radio you must defend ideas. Nuff said.
I heard 0bama watches ESPN first thing every day.
#30. Mike Malloy is so crazy he makes batshit seem sane.
Does Randi Rhodes come to mind...that loon is a perfect example most are offensive and obnoxious.
Yes, but I lost interest in KFI when KFI dropped Rush. I just checked and they are on right now, if anyone cares.
I still hear one of them on KEIB doing those annoying dentist commercials.
Because liberals don’t want to know more than the headlines tell them. Their eyes glaze over when actual facts are presented.
Si’!
For me, I compare it to the early days of radio vs TV. Radio is an active medium as the listener doesn’t just ‘listen’ they also use their imagination to fill in the ‘blanks’ left in the show format.
TV on the other hand is an ‘immersive medium’ the listener/watcher doesn’t need to think, they go into a ‘subjective and suggestive’ state and absorb all of the show being presented to them for the ‘viewing pleasure’.
So the lefty’s tend to not listen to ‘talk radio’ because it requires them to think and TV doesn’t.
Leftists by definition, have disordered minds. Therefore their prattling is based on lack of substance. After awhile no one listens because the dots do not connect. It is as simple as that.
WJR in Detroit has Mitch Albom in the 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. time slot.......
That is why the liberals cant put on a person who is listenable to the conservative. They trade in invective, hate, false facts and disinformation, lack a real sense of humor, are egoistic, often crazy, arrogant and elitist.
That describes Savage to a "t"
Because there’s more money in television?
Because theres more money in television?
+++++++++++++++++++++++
And much more influence in television.
Conservatives are crazy not to push onto television
There are lefties on talk radio. There is a spanish station about a half turn from a talk radio statio I listen to in Houston (1070). Most of the programming is in espanol.
Sometimes the DJ will flip between English and Spanis mid-sentence (and no, he’s not translating what he just said).
Anyhow, in the afternoon, there is a liberal shill in English (with a slight spanish accent) doing the talk radio schtick.
The DNC used to have a page on their website to get the daily talking points (know what the issues are and what positions to echo) as well as tricks to use to get by call screeners on conservative talk radio (sweet talk the host, say you are a lifelong Republican, etc).
I have no doubt that the Democrats are still sending out such talking points daily.
Why listen to a day’s talk radio if they are all going to say the same things (in the exact same phrasing)?
The conservative shows are not all the same (and not all of the shows are even conservative, some are late in life libertarians from people who used to support the Democrats but can’t stand with ‘em anymore).
Even the conservatives on FR are not all in agreement on policies, social issues, foreign policy, history, or what the best future could be.
Liberal ideas can’t stand the light of day.
They can not be defended in an open forum.
And the host that might try will NOT draw a paying audience.
Because they’re on the news programs and print journalism.
Mario the Pius (Cuomo) was a hoot to listen to when he did a talk radio show.
He would do his opening monolog and make some great argument in support of a liberal position. Then some Limbaugh listener would call in and destroy him and his argument with reason and logic. Mario would end up sputtering and pretty much unable to continue the show.
It was a contest against the clock as to how long it would take for this to happen. Classic radio.
I imagine those who listen to talk radio are those who are driving their cars the most hours:
People who wish to make the long commute rather than live in a controlled inner city location, and those in the transportation business...Basically hard working people.
