Former President Jimmy Carter said the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was among the factors that led to the deadly attacks last week in Paris.
Carter made the assertion Monday night during an appearance on Comedy Centrals The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Well, one of the origins for it is the Palestinian problem. And this aggravates people who are affiliated in any way with the Arab people who live in the West Bank and Gaza, what they are doing now whats being done to them. So I think thats part of it, Carter told Stewart.
He called the training in the Middle East of Muslim extremists with passports from countries such as France, Britain and the United States a new evolutionary development in terrorism.
They stay there for a few months and learn how to be a terrorist, and then they come back through Turkey and you know they have been there and you know who they are, Carter said. And I think this event in Paris is going to waken up the people in charge of security to watch those people more closely than they have in the past and not single out all of the Muslims in the country.
Carter, who wrote a book called Palestine: Peace not Apartheid, told Stewart that it was disheartening to think about how much time has elapsed since the Oslo Accords signed in 1993 without a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.
I still have hope for peace in the Middle East, but a distant hope, he said.
Carter said the United States must be in the forefront of demanding that the Palestinians and the Israelis come together and accept a reasonable solution to the problem.
His formula, he told Stewart, is for Israel to give up the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem and for the Palestinians to promise Israel security.
I can’t believe this old fossil is still running around loose. I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone would get around to blaming the Jews for this.
Carter: “Israel exists. They didn’t kill themselves off so the muslims have the right to kill them.”
Carter has never found a problem he couldn't blame the US for, or a dictator he didn't like, or a dictator's wife he could resist complimenting with a kind word and a toothy grin.
vaudine
Carter is more of the cause due to his allowing the Islamist regime in Iran to come to power.
much more accurately, Jimmy, you’re a major cause of the decline of America... you’re also a serious embarrassment to our once-great nation... selling out to your IslamoNazi/Saudi “contributors” ... lying almost every time you open your mouth....and spreading such awful anti-Semitic filth every second time when you’re not insulting or denograting USA or Christian values
Why not pick up your dam* peanuts and move to Mecca? Please!?
And because Jimmy Carter used the CIA to depose the Shah of Iran,we now have a global radical islamic problem.
Jimmy Carter is the Godfather of radical islam.
BJ made a serious run at being the worst prez ever, and it took Obama to remove all doubt... You held the title for 30 years.
It's long past time for your dirt nap.
“”His formula, he told Stewart, is for Israel to give up the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem and for the Palestinians to promise Israel security.””
Poor Jimmy. He’s a danger to himself and others. Just put him away where he can’t hurt anyone. Tape his mouth so no one has to listen to his drivel! Did Stewart tell him there is no such thing as a Palestinian? Of course not. Poor old doddering fool. Talk about believing in rainbows and unicorns. He’s too stupid to understand that no one over there wants peace except the Israelis. The ones complaining would have no reason to exist if they couldn’t blame others for their problems.
Former president Jimmah Cahtah.
Suppose that’s true - suppose the Israeli-Arab conflict causes terrorist attacks in the West.
Mr Carter - what does that mean we should DO?
Most Muslims don’t give a rat’s-rear-end about the Palestinians (except maybe as cannon fodder or as cheap labor and domestic servants - e.g. in Kuwait, etc). They are just used as an excuse to attack Israel.
Were a contemporary Dante to write the Inferno, surely one of the circles of hell would entail numberless televisions endlessly displaying Carter being interviewed by Stewart. Aaargh!
In the broad sense it is called linkage, or Israeli Palestinian Linkage, or MidEast Linkage. That there are many, but not all, problems in the Mideast that are linked to the Israeli Palestinian problem, and until that problem is solved, none of the other linked problems can be solved.
This is a common view amongst Foreign Policy Realists, including Carter.
The most controversial statement of linkage in recent times was in 2010 when Petraeus, who was serving as commander in Afghanistan, publicly complained that because Israel would not solve the Palestinian problem, his job in Afghanistan was much harder.
And did Mr Liebowitz put him in his place for his ridiculously simplistic and childish views with a snarky comment? Or did he just nod his stupid liberal head in mindless agreement?
You know after Carter was out of office a few years and working with Habitat, I would say “Carter was a terrible president, but he’s a good man”. Now thirty some years later the best thing I can say about Carter is “Why won’t you just die”. Is that wrong?
If only those Jews would stop fighting to defend their country then the Islamists living 6000 miles away would see no need to blow up airplanes, trains in spain, buses in the UK, discos in Germany, markets in France, cultural centers in Argentina...
Jimmy is a disgrace, there is no moral equivalence. Jimmy you don’t think one of the problems driving young men into desperation is widescale practice of sodomizing poor young Muslim boys by their unmarried elders? When a society allows the top 5% of men to marry the top 20% of women the bottom 15% of men are going to live what kind of life? What will happen to them as boys, and what kind of fulfillment will they find as young men?
Tell us Jimmy, do the Palestsinians in Ramallah really want free passage from Gaza city? Do the relatively middle class inhabitants of Tulk’Arm and Bethlehem really want to resettle one million uneducated, unskilled poor Arabs living in Camps in Lebanon and Jordan into the land of the West Bank?
Its time to put ALL the cards on the table, Jimmy. Do you really want to see a resolution of this conflict or does its perpetuation titillate you in some macabre way? Because your constant haranguing of this narrow view does no help.
