WASHINGTON (AP) In a rare admission of error, the White House said Monday that President Barack Obama or another high-level representative should have joined dozens of world leaders at an anti-terror rally in Paris.
While leaders from Europe, the Middle East and Africa linked arms for Sunday's march through the boulevards of Paris, the United States was represented by its ambassador to France. Attorney General Eric Holder was in Paris for security meetings but did not attend the march.
"It's fair to say we should have sent someone with a higher profile," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. The administration also announced that Secretary of State John Kerry, who was on a long-planned trip to India Sunday, will visit France later this week.
The White House appeared to have been caught off guard by both the scope of international representation at the rally and by the criticism of the decision to send only Ambassador Jane Hartley. Monday's admission of error seemed aimed at blunting criticism that the decision was tone deaf or disrespectful of the longstanding U.S. alliance with France.

He’s one of them and secretly supports them
Doing what he does best: apologize after sitting and doing nothing.
I doubt it was for the right reasons, but they were right to not send anyone to that orgy of phony moral preening.
Almost all of those phonies are prosecuting “Hate Speech”. And the whole scene was just creepy posturing.
I’m proud that America wasn’t part of it. Of course, now the Obamites are apologizing for doing the right thing ...
Another foreign policy triumph for Captain Midnight
People in the Obama Administration are too insecure and thin-skinned to send a real man like Giuliani...
We should have sent Seal Team 6 with all their kit.
The political winds changed in an ugly direction—civilized people everywhere were angry with the Religion of Peace over this most recent savagery—so Hussein was just doing what he promised to do at page 261 of ‘his’ book, “The Audacity of Hope”: he/Obama would stand with them (Muslims) “when the political winds shifted in an ugly direction.”
See, in the book, Obama actually mentioned the empathy he had for the ROP following September 11, 2001 because so many civilized people everywhere were .....
Or maybe it was Bill Ayres writing, and Barry didn’t know about this unfortunate statement until the book came out, or he heard about it on the news.
In any event, it’s not his fault—per the MSM—whatever it was he said or signed or held out as his own, until it became clear that it was flat wrong, foolish or treasonous. Then it was someone else’s fault, not Dear Leader.
American beheaded, he golfs.
Benghazi, flies off to fund raiser.
Priorities ya know!
It was intentional. They can lie all they want to about it, but the fact is that Eric Holder was already in Paris for a meeting.
The rally was not just a show against terrorism. It was in support of free speech.
From the political-correctness elite?
They don't believe in free speech.
Yeah, well he was busy... watching football or sumpin'.
Could have sent Biden, but he wasn't high, just drunk, as usual.
The Obama administration was right, for the wrong reasons? And you are proud of that?
