“Annual physicals are important, regardless of your age.”
Yes, they are. We don’t usually die from something that is found in it’s early stages, and once found, it’s usually not a problem because it’s routinely followed.
The other thing we need to do is be willing to go to the doctor when something, even a small something, seems to be amiss.

LOL! No I’ve never had that checked. :)

I thought that urologists had stopped recommending routine PSA screening because it was found to be so unreliable. The Death Panels have made that recommendation. My urologist says that's criminal. But I'm biased somewhat because screening discovered my prostate cancer.
To: nascarnation
Was your diagnosis based on PSA or DRE or both?
To: riverdawg
PSA(at my GP doc)>DRE (urologist)>biopsy (urologist)

Tell me one reason I should listen to this turd? I get annual physicals to catch whatever it might be as early as possible.

I guess you're not concerned with those numbers. Your choice. ☺ I will say that my dad's numbers are even higher than yours and he's still kicking at age 75.

Physicals are all pushed by the drug companies to find something “wrong” requiring a prescription.

I could be killed in an auto accident tomorrow. As a Christian I don't fear death at all. In fact, I kinda look forward to it. But it is not my focus. I believe in that old T-mobile slogan, "Be here now". I believe that everyone lives the exact same lifespan and we even have a word for it. That word is "today". And when you die, it's the end of the day for you. How's your day going? ;-)

I'm a Christian and I understand where you're coming from. But, I try to stay on top of my health because I have family and friends who would like me to. Although, my childrearing days are coming to an end, so I guess I'm not as needed here on earth as much as I was. I used to worry more about dying when I had dependent children.
Do you really want to know how my day is going? I've been in excruciating pain all day. I think I have a torn rotator cuff and calcium deposits in my shoulder. I had an MRI yesterday and have a follow-up with my doctor on Thursday. Death has looked particularly good to me many times this week. It's like having labor pain in my shoulder without the joy of a child coming out after 24 hours or so. ☺

I had major surgery on one of my shoulders four years ago. Mine was almost not salvageable. I know what you are going through.

BTW, you mentioned child rearing days. Our youngest is a 27 year old engineer for an insurance company (insures industrial buildings). The only one I’m “committed to” is my wife at this point. Her first husband died when she was about 28. She’s been through it before. If I die first, she’ll do fine. And we both are deeply aware of the temporal nature of this earthly life relative to eternity.

It’s always good to have someone who can relate. :-) I’m glad yours was able to be taken care of.

Here is an interesting twist. My shoulder had been giving me trouble for a couple of years, and one day I was getting in my car and as I lifted my right foot in, my left foot slipped out from under me and fell on my left shoulder. My wife said she heard the crunch. This was the night before we flew to our vacation in Hawaii.
My arm was useless EXCEPT for snorkeling. I had full motion without pain. I don’t get it. For anything else, strong pain came in any effort to lift my arm.

Oh, and I had to sleep in a chair for a month after surgery.

I would hate having to sleep in a chair. We will see what happens. I cannot wait for Thursday to come. The doctor prescribed Vicodin for me today and it isn’t doing anything.
That’s pretty crazy about falling, hearing the crunch and still having complete use of your arm. Wow!
