Rallies are an attempt to show, or to stimulate, the number of voters who support whatever it is you’re selling.
There’s a reason FDR did not address a rally on the Mall on December 10, 1941 to protest against Kido Butai and to show solidarity with the victims of Pearl Harbor.
In France, the number of weeping pussies lighting candles is of no importance to the enemy. Men with knives coming to kill them would be significant - rallies are not.
