'A Muslim shop worker has told how he saved "15 to 20" customers at a Jewish supermarket attacked by terrorist Amedy Coulibaly.
Lassana Bathily was out of the gunman's view when he stormed the Hypercacher store in eastern Paris with guns blazing.
A number of shoppers fled down stairs at the back of the shop, where they ran into the 24-year-old assistant, who thought the group could hide in a cold storage room in the basement.
He has been credited with helping the hostages - including a father and his young son - to survive the siege, in which four were killed by Coulibaly.
He told France's BFMTV: "I went to the freezer, I opened the door and a number of people came in with me.
"I turned off the light and the freezer. I told them to keep calm, to not make any noise."
After managing to escape through a goods lift and an emergency exit, Mr Bathily was initially suspected of being a terrorist accomplice.
He said: "I ran out, I saw police officers who told me 'Lie down! Hands on your head!'"
After explaining who he was, Mr Bathily was able to provide officers with useful information about the layout of the store and where customers had been hiding.
After police stormed the building and killed Coulibaly, some of the freed hostages thanked him and shook his hand, he said.
Explaining why he acted as he did, Mr Bathily said: "We are all brothers. It's not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims.
"We were all in the same boat, we had to help each other to get out of the crisis."'

He was trying to save his own butt from the terrorists.
No doubt, but when push came to shove, he put the customers in a place of safety, and then went back through the danger zone to get help.
He's a mensch in my book.

That story was from “Farmer Boy”, I believe.
My favorite of the books was Farmer Boy, because it gave details on not only how people lived in those times, but how they did what they did and why they thought what they thought.

It's from "Little Town on the Prarie" when Almanzo begins to court Laura. He explained his unusual name to her. I had the whole set when I was growing up and almost wore them out reading them over and over.
Aha! 'bout time damn some reporter had the balls to use the word "Muslim" when reporting on this story.
I fear for this man, as too much publicity might bring him unwanted Islamic attention. I wonder if he would not have preferred anonymity. Also, how did he, a Muslim, end up working at a Kosher butcher shop, serving Jews? I would have thought that Islam would have made that verboten.

I would venture that many Moslems are prisoners of the Islam from birth or forced conversion, they submit or die.
Yes, he should have asked his name not be mentioned, but the elites know better don’t ya know? After all, Islam is a religion of peace and the elites need to display an example of a good moslem, whether or not the good moslem wanted to be held up as an example. I am sure the elites would have dismissed any fears of retaliation he possibly could have expressed as part of the hostage situation and not plausible or realistic, since the elites know best, don’t ya know?

I recall reading a story that numerous muslims fly El Al due to their screening and security measures.
He wasn't. He is Black. Their mindset is quite different
