Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Saturday that he is “seriously” considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Boxer.

“Too many Californians are struggling to make ends meet, pay the bills, and send their kids to college. They are looking for progressive leaders in Washington who will fight for them, like Sen. Boxer has done for over 20 years,” he said in a statement. “… The urgency of the needs of the people of this great state have convinced me to seriously consider looking at running for California's open Senate seat."

He joins a large field of Democratic candidates weighing a bid, including billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer, state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and several members of Congress. On the Republican side, Assemblyman Rocky Chavez and former GOP chairmen Duf Sundheim and Tom Del Beccaro are considering bids. [...]

If I were Antonio, I wouldn’t bid more than two bits.

It's not about "a vote." It's about creating a brand new Conservative Party in CA and craft a solid conservative/libertarian message that will start rescuing the state from Mexico.

It's time conservatives in CA start running as independents (or part of this new Conservative Party) and completely ditch the state GOP.

I understand Marxists outnumber conservatives a billion-to-one, but can someone at least try?

Considering corruption to the core, top to bottom, and being way outnumbered, you're going to need more than luck...

But good luck.

I’ve read that since there is zero chance of an R win in November, they may skip running any Senate candidate and endorse the most palatable Democrat in the “jungle” primary.

Without LA and SF, like most of America, a sensible candidate could be elected. Unfortunately, it’s WA with out Seattle, PA without Philly, NY without NYC, IL, without Chi. Too many good folks, weighed down with an anchor :(

I read yesterday the early favorite is Marissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo and top 10 Obama bundler. This presumes that MooseChelle Obama is not going to run in Cali.

Mayer has huge money of her own, and backing from rich west coast tech leftys.

Another potential would be Abortion Barbie to relo from Texas, she would be quite popular but doesn’t have near the $$$. And this will be a very expensive race.

Former L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa weighs bid for Boxer's Senate seat

If I interpret this correctly what he's saying is: "I don't want anything but more power and more money."

That’s about the only option these days. Republicans are dead statewide in CA.

Villairaigosa is very, very ambitious. He made it known, he wants to be the first Mexican in the Whitehouse.

He is corrupt, lazy and duplicitous.

He has to decide whether to run for the vacated Senate seat, or go into private law practice.

IOW, Boxer's or briefs.
