What kind of rifles are the police carrying, with the wood stock and the vertical notch cut into the butt side?

Definitely Mini 14 Ruger.

Hope they don’t need to hit something more than about 50 yards out, terrible accuracy with a factory barrel, however they are extremely reliable, much more reliable than any AR variant.

Magazines look too fat for 5.56 (.223).

Those rifles might actually be variants of M14 chambered in 7.62x51 (.308).
