KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Reuters) - President Barack Obama promoted a proposal to offer two years of free community college tuition to students on Friday but the plan and its $60 billion pricetag over 10 years immediately faced skepticism from Republican lawmakers.
Obama floated the education idea on the third and final day of a tour to promote agenda items being prepared for his Jan. 20 State of the Union address, a speech that will be his first to the U.S. Congress since Republicans won the Senate in November elections.

“Just as colleges raised the tuition and fees when the government got into student loans (like most other corporations) they will again for this. What they need to do is come up with a psych test to assess who will survive to graduate. How about college boot camp?”

So, if the said student maintains a C average, does that mean that he must pay back all the money?
If so, then there will have to be a whole system set up in order to retrieve payment out of the said "C" student.
Wouldn't it be much easier for the student to find a mack daddy like B. Hussein had, who paid for all his time at Oxidental and Columbia with no stipulation about grades?

So that would be around $60 billion for the two-year community college program. $340 billion over 10 years.
And that's assuming average college tuition remains at $3,800 over ten years. I predict it will double in three years with all that "free" federal money coming in.
This is nothing but a full-employment act for community college owners and personnel, with the “unexpected” side-effect of driving community college tuition through the roof. Pretty much like what’s happened with the existing student “loan” program.
BTW, if obama were to get this, the next step would be to want to “forgive” existing student loans because it’s “unfair” that THEY had to BORROW their money BEFORE the new freebee program went into effect.

LOL talked to a 22 year old a while back who actually thought it was all free. She was shocked when I mentioned that it is paid with taxes. Grew up in OHIO.
Well, the combined endowments of the top 4 richest (measured in endowment money) US universities is ~103-110 Billion Dollars. All the US has to do is confiscate, in a ‘graduated manner’ like the tax code they espouse, 10-25% of the top 25 university endowments and they could fund this program....
1.) Given the caveat that if one is willing to work hard, it is not free.
2.) If you are paying taxes, you have not learned anything.

We already have free PELL GRANTs for Community College educations.
This is a scam and intended for the ILLEGALS to get to go to college on the taxpayer dime. And adults can get this too, just like the Pell Grant, a great way to hide young muslims, as they get money in addition to an education, as they qualify for food stamps and all kinds of things.
I taught community college...this is not necessary. The Pell Grant will pay for everything, it is decided on parents or self income tax filings from previous year, and no paying back. FISHY?
