What I’ve Learned From Dropping Fox News
The Federalist ^ | 01/07/2015 | By Greg Scandlen

Posted on 01/07/2015 5:52:58 PM PST by SeekAndFind

I switched to Dish from Comcast about three months ago. Dumb. I was hoping to save some money and don’t care for Comcast’s politics. I knew satellites have some reception problems during storms, but was willing to live with that. I had no idea they would drop the only channel worth watching on television.

Now, I don’t like everything about Fox. Sean Hannity is too strident for my tastes, and Bill O’Reilly is a blowhard bully, but I’m less interested in the prime-time programming than in the daytime news, now that I’m retired and at home most days.

Of course, being retired means I’m far from the “key demographic” advertisers crave, so no one really cares what I think. The advertisers are right: I don’t spend much money these days. I have all the clothes and furniture I will ever need, we mostly eat at home, I’m not a drinker, and I’m certainly not buying expensive gifts to impress a love interest—we’ve been together long enough that she is beyond being impressed by anything I might do.

But I am, and have always been, a news junkie. Even in elementary school my favorite topic was “current events,” and I’ve been active in politics my whole life. So, unlike most of the public, I relish the “24-hour news cycle.” So, life without Fox News has been educational.

This is what I have learned so far.

The Other Outlets Are Shallow and One-Sided

Both MSNBC and CNN are far more one-sided than I ever realized.

Fox is establishment RINO network. Very little on there appeals to me as a conservative.

FoxNews is not conservative. It is merely that FoxNews does not hate the USA.

They also have too many females. I like listening to a male voice - why can't we have more of them?

“How about everyone everywhere just stop watching cable news, forever.”

Actually, I come to Free Republic more than I watch ANY television news. I probably watch Fox the most, but honestly, sooner or later all the talking heads get on my nerves.

CNN, MSNBC, etc, I'd ask my dog for the news before I'd watch 30 seconds of any of those fools.

I can’t speak for all the other males out there, but one reason I watch FOX is because I wanna watch the pretty girls.... (shallow but true ).

‘CNN ran a feature about the ten biggest stories of 2014, and didn’t even mention the midterm elections. Like it never even happened.’

Congress is behaving this same way, by the way.

How can Dish exact an early out penalty if they breach the contract by not having the station promised?

If I had opted in for Dish in the past two years during which they sent me a lot of mailers, I’d have gotten it for Fox and a couple - a couple - of other stations.

Our family watches TV together, we have one tv. We watch red eye, (fast forwarding), and some of the evening shows. a little network tv - jeopardy, and some superhero things.

If I’m not getting fox, what am I paying a hundred per month for?

I think people don’t watch their money, nor do they protect it.

Dish could hold me to a contract?

That’s too powerful

I’d think about a class action

Naughty Donna, making such a heterosexist comment: “I like listening to a male voice.”

Anybody who wants to switch from Dish to Direct give me a call and help feed a kid in America.

Pray America wakes up

Fox news is not conservative. They are only called conservative because they occasionally will air a story that is not 100% cheerleading for Obama. All the other stations do not present negative stories about democrats.

Never.

I come here and quite often I get a stories days before they are reported.
My wife watches the local CBS affililate that runs into CBS evening news
sometimes I watch just to see how they report about things and how they do not report things. They strongly shill for Obola.
Most often I grab the controller and flip it to Fox.
It’s not perfect, but it beats the hell out of SeeBS.
I like FOX chicks!

Some of the Beeb’s world news is not too bad.

Years ago when I worked at a PBS network station, BBC World was relayed on and had it’s own dedicated internal channel.

I would generally put it up in a monitor at low level. They ran news, Holiday (travel), Click On-Line (technology), Top Gear, Talking Movies, The Biz, and some survival documentary but not Bear Grylls.

That beat the daylights out of kid’s animation, handyma’am, Head Start ECPDN, and a ton of other snoozers.

I cut the satellite 4 years ago. (can’t get cable in the country)
Ever since Tuesday’s joke in Florida with gay marriage I stopped even watching the local news. The MSM were/are beside themselves in flaunting homos everywhere. Only watch the xx.2 channels and mostly classic B+W movies and shows now.

I get my news here on FR & Drudge.
