It would have been the same in the UK - police don't normally carry guns, either. HOWEVER, don't think the people in France and England don't have guns. Sure, bad guys will get them. However, there are guns among the citizens - you just have to be better than the usual riff/raff citizen to get one or more.

Most of us would be riff/raff citizens and would be put in jail if we had a gun. However, our “betters”, those with land and high placed government friends, have guns. My son has lived there long enough to live among the “gentry”, and he can go hunting with them on their land with rifles. So, the guns are there, you just need to be high enough on the social scale to get one.

See, I think that system stinks. Neither French or English citizens are free - that is a myth fed to the citizens. I have lived in England long enough to know how I have to fit in a box, just like they do, in order to stay out of trouble. They were born in their box and don't realize they are in one. To the English, Texas is full of people with guns and boots and cows and oil flowing on the land.

The riff raff English think we should give up our guns - they don't know why anyone would want one (but, ahhha! remember their rich have them). The killings today should show the French (and English) why at least their police (along with the rich gentry) should have guns, but it won't.

The caste system of living levels, has always been there and here, and always will be. Only here can one lift oneself to higher social levels and perks, and stay there. If one hasn't lived with the utterly rich, it's a world unto itself. Weapons for protection are surely there.

In summary, the rich around the world have weapons. The normal riffraff citizenry in most countries do not have weapons. Police around the world will get killed if without weapons. For the time being, the riffraff citizenry in the United States have weapons. In my opinion, if Muslim Brotherhood friend Obama has his way, only Muslims will have weapons in this country.
