Welcome to Washington, Congressman Grothman.
Glenn Grothman's very first vote as a member of Congress, a vote in favor of John Boehner for Speaker, earned the ire of RedState.com Editor in Chief Erick Erickson who declared Grothman "all talk."
"There will be no standing up by Glenn Grothman. Elections have a way of voluntarily and willingly neutering congressmen."
Critics of Grothman are pointing to Grothman's willingness during the summer primary to criticize Boehner's leadership in the House and suggest that he would vote against the sitting Speaker in 2015.
I would have no problem looking for an alternative to Speaker Boehner, Grothman said in a candidate debate Aug. 1. I have no problem standing up to Republican leadership.
So is Grothman a sell-out? One of those spineless RINOs? A member of the Establishment?
Please....

Now Bert, you know better than that...it ain't going to happen under Boehner, and one cannot clean house enough in this business.
And the House will still be run by Pelosi.
I take your point but there are many good guys that will still have a voice
It may not be the Dingy Harry Reid like control that many fantacize over, but they will have an effect
No he is not a RINO. He is a Republican. That is what Republicans are. It is the principled conservatives who are RINOs. The rest are true Republicans in the Designated Opposition Wing of the Imperial Party.
I think there is a profound difference between a former lawyer whose only job has been as a state legislator for the last 22 years versus a full-time multiple business owner who is seeking to continue to moonlight after 3 years as a part-time citizen legislator while parenting 8 children who are highly active in local school and community events.
A PC formulation. Correct is "And the first sigh that a person gives showing he is lying"
Don't surrender the language to the professors and the socialists. If you become accustomed to using their bastardized language your thinking must become also affected as language is the tool kit of thought.
I hope that comes to pass but why does anyone think "another shot" is going to improve anything? We have passed the point of no return. It isn't just the prospect of plum committee appointments and better offices that motivates conservatives to instantly become Republicans on reaching Washington. It is the prospect of permanent Wealth if they co-operate with the Imperial Party even if their treason costs them their next election.
I live in one of the most conservative House districts in the country. The conservative that would receive Freeper approval was elected when the vote was split between two less conservative candidates.
On the next election, one of the two ran and ousted the very strong conservative. He was reelected in November.
The point being, there are conservatives and then there conservatives. The vote for speaker reflects that fact of political power.
I suppose they can be labeled CINO’s but they certainly don’t think of themselves in that manner. Given the election to the speakership, we can conclude that the conservative majority has those thoughts
Knowing Glenn, I’m sure that he has a reason. I’ve never known him not to have a well thought out reason.
As far as not jumping on talk shows, he is out of town nowdays. Not so easy to make a connection with Charlie, Vicki, or Mark.
My guess from here is the old adage, “If you are going to strike the king, you must kill the king.” If Glenn did not see that this effort was going to succeed (after all 25 votes out of 500+ is not a very good showing) he’d be smarter to work within the system.
Not “summer soldiers,” rather double agents.
If those newly elected members of congress were not Republicans, but were members of a Conservative Party, the way Bernie Sanders is elected as a member of the Socialist Party, would they have voted for Boehner? Never, they would have negotiated with the Republicans to let them have a speaker that conservatives could stomach, and for committee seats and positions. They would have more power than their actual numbers. Instead, they have less power than their numbers, because they are threatened like children.
Conservatism cannot be successful through the auspices of the Republican party. It is as simple as that.
It is that. I don’t give Republicans as much credit as that, though. Many of them seem to be the gophers promising the Crocodile they will be very co-operative if only the Crocodile will eat them last.
That’s what I said.
:)
Come on AFTR if he was looking for votes he’d be on that cell phone calling into every one of their shows and they’d be more than happy to give him the floor for his explanation.
He’s ducking this hoping it dies down before he has to answer plain and simple.
Well, I phoned his office, and I shall do so again when the dust settles. I’d like to hear his explanation personally.
A letter I received from him this week mentioned that he has been appointed to 3 committees, rare for a first termer. He’ll be on House Budget, House Government Oversight, and House Education and Work Force committees.
Of course, he wants money to erase his debt, but he won’t be getting any more from me - mostly because I have no more to give.
Write to him at P.O. Box 1215, Fond du Lac, WI 54936 and tell him no more money until you get a reasonable explanation.
More and more, lately, I have been coming around to this conclusion. Aside from the anomalies of Taft, Harding, Coolidge and Reagan, the Republican party's presidents have been a load of swillwater losers, perfectly happy with evergrowing, overbearing, totalitarian government. I have to conclude that the Party is as the Party does. If that's what the GOP stands for then I am not GOP - except to raise a little ruckus in the primaries.
This is why it’s impossible to change the Republican Party.
This is why we need a new party.
To what end?
I didn't send Glenn to DC (and yes, I held my nose and voted for him in the general) to get better "stuff" for my congressional district.
Any House member can write or sponsor legislation. Assuming that Grothman truly has some unique conservative ideas he wants to promote, did Grothman's logrolling on the Speaker vote really create a measurable difference into whether any of his unique legislative ideas come to fruition?
Not likely.
Our representatives need to stand on principle on every day and on every vote. Grothman proved himself to be just another weasel GOP politician - on his very first day and his very first vote in DC!
Bert really should know better.
Expect nothing but “Kabuki Show Votes” in the coming months.
When the GOP had the opportunity to do something during the lame
duck session, they did nothing.
It is all “show votes” from here on out. Nothing more.
