Men, Made of Sterner Stuff
Orignal Content | 1/7/2015 | By Laz A. Mataz

The smoke has cleared, and John Boehner, the neo-progressive Obama-enabler, has retained his House Speaker position.

Despite a clear and unequivocal message sent by many millions of Americans and conservatives, the dissenters in the House who would have removed Boehner numbered only twenty-five -- twenty-five men and women of conviction, out of two-hundred thirty-six. That is a mere 10.5% of the total Republicans seated in 2015.

The reseating of Boehner, who I now call the Crying Cheeto (due to his weepiness and odd orange skin color), guarantees an agenda of appeasement of Democrats, a failure to rein in an out-of-control Barack Obama, and an agenda favoring the Chamber of Communism. The COC agenda consists largely of deflating American wages by turning a blind eye to massive illegal immigration, and by importing technical and skilled workers from low-wage third-world hellholes.

There will be no serious challenge of Obamacare, which is poised to strangle American small businesses, and impose harsh mandates and financial penalties on a populace already under severe wage pressure -- even though Americans have electorally removed half of the Senators who voted for that Obamacare.

There will be an acceleration in the 'normalization' of illegal immigrants, which will permanently change the character of the American electorate to one that favors increasing socialism, and even outright communism.

There will be no attempt to rein in an overreaching Environmental Protection Agency, whose bureaucratic edicts border on insanity.

There will be no desire to investigate and punish the many dozens of Obama scandals, including the weaponization of the IRS, the internal spying on journalists who report negative stories on the administration, and the importation of illegal firearms into the neighboring nation of Mexico.

There is a story that emerged last night: Representative Louie Gohmert related that many of the people who were successfully recruited to oppose the Obama-sycophant Boehner, backed out at the last moment, and did so without warning. It occurs to me that they did so for their own selfish reasons. They were afraid of retaliation. They were scared they might lose committee memberships, or not get new ones. They decided that their own personal interests were more important than representing the people they serve. Polls showed clearly that they were being directed to remove Boehner. No matter to them, they voted for their selfish personal gain.

It staggers the cogent observer: Small-minded and petty personal concerns bested the 'principles' of approximately 90% of the Republican membership.

This mirrors the percentage of the affiliation of American citizens, preceding the Revolutionary War. Ten percent were for the Crown, ten percent were for Independence, and eighty percent had little concern either way.

But do we not elect people who are supposed to be more principled than the common citizenry? Apparently we did not.

If we think back to the Founding Fathers, they risked much more than losing a choice committee membership. They risked their lives. They risked their families. They risked their personal fortunes, and even though the Revolution was successful, many of them still died broke.

These Founders, these men, were made of sterner stuff. Now, we have men and women who can be cowed by the threat of the loss of minor privileges.

I sometimes observe that soft times -- times of abundance and plenty -- breed soft men. We have bred a crop of weak, unprincipled representatives. Their elections and their actions guarantee that we shall enter much tougher times. The bright spot of this situation is that, as things go south -- and they will -- that in about a generation, perhaps we'll have a more moral, hardworking, principled citizenry.

Perhaps we will be made of sterner stuff.

Perhaps we will deserve the freedom that we will have to fight for, again. We have squandered the Founders sacrifices. Someday, we shall need to make our own.

The point was that the self identifying Conservative CongressCritters couldn,t team up, devise a strategery and execute same. The numbers are supposedly there, but apparently not. They shoulda signed a declaration of actual representation.

a few committee appointments

Those mainly represent the power to direct favorable legislation to special interests who return the favor with campaign contributions. When those memebers retire the contributions can be turned into a nice slush fund. Before retirement those committee assignments mean more power and more money.

Great Post. Our Founding Fathers were an anomaly in history, and we were blessed with their leadership. Never before has there been such a large group of enlightened statesmen. Those men lived in a time of relative plenty, but they were not soft. Instead, they were made of sterner stuff because they were the product of freedom. I would like to think that if man ever left this planet and colonized a whole new world, the men it would produce would be the same. Perhaps. Perhaps not.

What I watch now with our out of control government, sadly, is proof of a historical maxim. Great nations do not die, they commit suicide.

Hear, hear! Excellent, Laz.

Soft times, indeed. NONE of the newly elected GOP women were brave enough to vote against Cheeto. Only three of the newly elected Reps....just THREE brave patriots....voted against him.

All, but three, took the money and ran. (Now we know what was also *baked* into the CRomnibus Bill.)

Apparently, it never occurred to these weaklings that had they stuck together there would've been no retaliation. They would've held all the cards and their chairmanships.

Sick of being represented by people that are more worried which cocktail party they'll be invited to than they are about the Constitution..... *sigh*

They only started about 3 days ago. Really?

To all these 'conservatives' who voted for Boehner, he's promised to crush you. And he will still crush you, and it's much easier to accomplish that since YOU VOTED FOR HIM. You voted to have the crocodile to eat you last. What's that get you, if you had joined together Crying Johnnie would still be in the corner crying and you'd be free of the crocodile instead of on your knees appeasing him. MORONS.

Nice summation Laz, but where do we go from here?

I like many fellow FReepers notified my congressman, the despicable and spineless Tim Murphy(RINO-PA), that should he vote for Boehner I'd not only no longer support him but would work actively to secure his defeat.

He must be confident that these were idle threats, but I will never vote for that snake again.

But the question remains, where do we go from here?

Spot on. Sadly.

The 25 remind me of the story of Gideon (from the Bible).
Gideon was the weakest man from the smallest tribe in Israel, but G-d called him to overthrow the Midianites.

Gideon started with 22,000 men and the Lord shrank that number to 300.

The enemy (that G-d allowed because “The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and for seven years he gave them into the hands of the Midianites”) was GIVEN to Gideon by the Lord’s will alone.

I am afraid that America, (including myself) have not pleased G-d very much, and we are suffering now for the sins we’ve committed directly against our Father.

Anyway, here’s Gideon’s story. Copy and paste in case it’s a hotlink:

Good job, Laz. Thanks for putting our thoughts into words.

Excellent and right to the point message, My FRiend.

99% of the population of the United States do not mind wearing the shackles and chains of the slave as long as they have their EBT card and NFL football along with NBA basketball.

The Servicemen/women that previously given their lives, and the Founding Fathers, I apologize to daily for the contempt that most of those who refer to themselves as Americans hold the sacrifices in.

Maybe we should give them a chance to get their act together. Who knows, they might do something good.

Have you been paying any actual attention to anything that has gone on in DC?

But the question remains, where do we go from here?

If you live in a state that requires you to register as affiliated with a political party, and you are registered Republican, change to Independent. Now, my state (Tenn) does not have that requirement. We are allowed to vote in either primary at every election. I do not know how party registration states handle the primaries.
