Venezuelans not 'lovin' it' as McDonald's fries go scarce
CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan fast-food lovers are mourning the disappearance of McDonald's golden staple: the french fry.
A recent shortage at the U.S. fast food chain comes as socialist Venezuela grapples with shortfalls of basic goods ranging from medicines to flour due to strict currency controls that stymie imports.
McDonald's restaurants are coping by replacing the spuds with salad or local fare such as fried yuca or "arepa" corn pancakes - but Golden Arches fans are none too happy about the new meal.
"Hamburgers don't go with arepas and this salad I accepted doesn't taste of anything," moaned student Indira Silva, 27, at a fast-food outlet in affluent eastern Caracas.
"I'm not coming back until the fries do."

Most startling thing is that this socialist paradise allows one of the biggest capitalist icons of success in the entire world, to operate in their country.
Not that I eat there anymore, but hey, they don’t need me.
To hell with medicines, gotta get those greasy, factory- manufactured, chemical-laden McFries back!!!!! Or there’ll be a revolution!
This is the least of their problems.
Not everyone needs medicine at any given time. What these people are missing is the sort of “normalcy” where you could walk into a place like McDonald’s — or any place, really — and get something you wanted.
This is a good thing. The more Venezuelans who find out they’ve been had by socialism, the better. Maybe the population of some other country flirting with it will look to Venezuela and say, “No thanks!”
Maybe even Americans will....?
I guess Hugo Chavez’ Burger Jefe didn’t work out too well. Have it our way, comrade.

I was just thinking that very thing!
The government of Venezuela owns its own chain of arepa places, probably loses money on every one it sells. They also own grocery and appliance stores while the politicians do what they can to shut down private competition.
How to arrange s greasy-French-frie shortage in USA?
even basics like ibuprofen and women’s pads have almost regular shortages, gotta love that command economy crap
For a real revolution against idlamonazi tyranny in USA, replace mcD krap burgers with Michelle cusine.
A good first-person account of a visit only months after the place opened. Not pretty:

I just hope all the gorgeous girls in Alta Mira and La Castellana are ok
Pity Caracas is so pelligrossismo now....
But I wonder why worry about McDonalds fries when you can have a big fat juicy arepa of your choice at El Granjero del Este at 3am

Even during the guerrilla war in El Salvador one could walk into a McDonalds and get good food and good clean service. Most afternoons there were lower middle class birthday parties going on for young children.
The mainline media refused to acknowledge that a huge middle class existed in El Salvador and preferred to depict it as peasants and 14 rich families. But in those “working class barrios” there were video rentals, plentiful shops, and well-fed and well-groomed people.
I like McDonald’s fries a lot. They are thin and crispy. And I like the McDoubleburger off the dollar menu also (no pickle). Guess I have gutter taste buds, lol. A mere plebian.
I thought fries are going scarce in Venezuela because of unions in America’s Dock. Same thing is happening in Japan
McD is chemically manufactured to taste good and IMHO their fries are one of their best items. I can’t eat there anymore because something they e added causes I dtent belching here. Probably s new Chem invoking an awegic reaction?? That’s just a guess
If it happened here, it would be Ferguson all over again.
