In the Mississippi Delta town of Tchula, there’s a fading columned mansion that once belonged to Sara Virginia Jones, the daughter of a local plantation dynasty. Its walls were lined with nearly 400 works by artists as prominent as Paul Cezanne, Marc Chagall, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Salvador Dali, and Andy Warhol.

Then, in the 1990s, the house changed hands. Today, it is filled with framed photos of the current owner—Tchula’s controversial first black mayor, Eddie Carthan, who was in office from 1977 to 1981—posing with U.S. presidents Carter, Clinton, and Obama and the Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan.

“Three or four generations of people raised on welfare—everybody knows the problem,” he said. “Single-family homes, drug-infested neighborhoods, the youth always on social media, exposed to everything. Ear rings, nose rings, lip rings, baggy pants. I’d expect they’d show some appreciation, but a lot of them don’t know their history. That’s a challenge. It’s very difficult for the teachers to even teach school. They’re rebellious. They have the freedom, the resources. They don’t have the restraints we had in the ’60s.” He shakes his head. “What goes around comes around. We’ve come a long ways, but we’ve got a long ways to go.”

I think when he said "single-family homes" he meant "single-parent homes."

I wish these folks would make up their minds. Some articles about the Delta go to great lengths describing its rich, African-American heritage as its defining characteristic, reaching back to the days of the keelboatmen.

Admittedly the history of the Mississippi Delta was very much different from that of Northern industrial cities like Detroit. THe book, Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America well documents the blacks were forced at gunpoint to work on the levees and received scant relief supplies compared with the white minority. Interestingly, the plantation owners had a sense of noblesse oblige toward the black majority that shielded them to some degree from the wrath of lower income whites, from which law enforcement officers and Ku Klux Klan members were recruited. Places like Detroit and Chicago were escape valves for blacks suffering from poverty and raw treatment from the dominant white minority in the Mississippi Delta.

There are old grievances dating back to the 19th and early to mid 20th Centuries, and blacks, like Irish and Jews, do not forget their past oppression. Unlike the Jews and a lesser extent the Irish, blacks by and large have wallowed in their past and not overcome the legacy of that past. Not that Jews or Irish are perfect. The Jews took a lot of land from the Palestinians, often unjustly, and the population of Irish Protestants dropped sharply after the Irish Republic was established. However, Ireland and Israel are first world countries with high per capital incomes. Jewish Americans are the most prosperous group in this country. Irish Americans (excluding the Scots-Irish of Appalachia) are relatively high income.

Is it genetic or attitudinal? I don't know. But the difference undeniably exists.

Often it was black rage and violence that had whites leaving areas taken over by socialists in forced desegregation. Can’t blame blacks for their anger and can’t blame whites for moving away from that anger. Anger is destructive.

Still today, when an area reaches the racial tipping point, whites will move out due to race rage’s violence, racism and socialism. I would never send my children to a school dominated by blacks because there is too much risk of them being harmed by racist teachers and students.

Black Americans who fail to move out of the race hate mode and into a more positive mindset of living in the present, will not thrive. Race hate hurts any group that embraces it’s dark energy and mindset. Love is the source of all good things in life.

3 How many high school graduates have gone into the military or gone on to what is probably a free college education?

4 Of those who have "MADE IT", how many have stayed/come back to work in virtually unplowed, (after all these years), fields that offer opportunity to make it from the bottom up?

5 What is the illegitimacy rate?

I knew that I didn't want to live on 77th street in Niagara Falls all my life, (some do/did, nothing against them, or wrong with that), did my three years in the Marines where I toured Southeast Asia, utilized the GI Bill for my education and got a home loan, and got my MBA through tuition reimbursement at my place of employment. Mrs NCC got her undergraduate degree at Kent State at age 50, taught in an inner city school in Ohio where she could not get the parents to do five minutes a day of flashcards or times tables with Juwann or Shaniqua.

My old man was a first generation American greaser named Garcia who grew up in a Philadelphia orphanage, married a girl from a broken down town called Curwensville, raised five kids who are not in jail or on welfare, and worked all his adult life in the New York Air National Guard. He was acctivated to the Army/Air Force for WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, (we were together for three days in Nam), and lived a comfortable, not luxurious, retirement on Soc Sec and Civil Service benefits.

I have difficult time generating crocodile tears for people who have all sorts of opportunity but would rather live on EBT and put their benefits in their arm or up their nose.

Eh, at least blacks in colonial Africa have done better for themselves than majority-black cities here.

Even so, they haven’t reached their full potential. At least they don’t whine and complain about it as much as blacks here do. (Exception: Mugabe/S Rhodesia, A.N.C./U. of S.A.)

White flight is definitely happening in Philadelphia MS, just a little slower.

It is only recently becoming majority black.

The effects of white flight are likely just beginning.

I went to three different high schools.

One was one that today would be considered a “black” high school. I saw first hand their own personal destruction; never going to class, hanging out in the hallways, Uncle Tom anyone that tried, cussing at teachers, stealing what they could, no discipline at all, etc.

The second high school I went to was considered one of the wealthiest white schools. Everyone was concerned about college and careers. There was civil order and discipline. People wanted to get ahead.

The third school was mixed, but only military dependents. Same thing: Everything was good.

What I learned was that unless a culture is enforced on blacks they simple revert to primal savagery. Left to their own devices they create their own demise.

At that first school, across town, the county had built an all black high school. It was really expensive and had things our school didn’t. Within the first year of it opening it was vandalized; seats in the auditorium were cut by knives, windows broke out, etc. The kids, those that hadn’t dropped out yet, pretty much hung out in the parking lot during the day.

I’ve seen black culture. It isn’t pretty. Nothing but primal savagery.

I have to agree; and it hasn't been just black people screwed by that. Globalization of trade has been like heroin on the marketplace -- very distorting very quickly. A few dealers at the top reap outsized profits, but the risks and punishments down at street level are huge.

If..by "Whitey" they mean the Democratic party...then, BINGO, they win the prize.!! The dumocraps have done EVERYTHING humanly possible to put and to keep the black man down... They work day and night to make sure the black man is well supplied with the drugs that keeps him sedated. They have "social engineered" him to the point where he has become almost totally dysfunctional.. They have totally destroyed his family and robbed him of his pride and any hope whatsoever of a future worth having...!

The terrible part is the vast majority of them refuse to even consider the truth of the matter...! The democratic party has "suckered" the black American to a point where it very well may lead to their demise...

There are lots of Mexicans, lots of blacks, a whole bunch of angry white folk and plenty of anger and ammo to go around....

I think the handwriting is on the wall... Unfortunately, for the black man, it must be in cursive...
