Bigger in Texas: How Many Pounds of Brisket Have Been
Townhall.com ^ | January 5, 2015 | Katie Pavlich

If you're going to celebrate defeating Wendy Davis in a landslide and becoming the next Governor of the Lone Star State, you might as well live up to the motto, "Everything is bigger in Texas."

To celebrate Greg Abbott's victory, four tons of brisket have been ordered for his inauguration party.

Everything's bigger in Texas: WFAA just reported that FOUR TONS of brisket have been ordered for the @GregAbbott_TX inauguration party.— Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) January 5, 2015

Four tons is equivalent to 8,000 pounds. Notice how Abbott didn't mention where the brisket was ordered from, after all, that could start a Texas civil war. Regardless, I think it's fair to say there's little doubt Abbott's party will be one of the best around the country as newly elected officials take their oaths of office this month.

UPDATE: It's going to be quite the party with brisket selling for $10 a plate in Austin.

For the first time in 14 years, Texas is about to have a new governor. While the transfer of power will include several formalities, there are also concerts, balls, parades, and even a barbecue anyone in Austin can enjoy.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Governor-elect Greg Abbott will take the oath of office, ending Rick Perry’s record-setting tenure. but that is just one part of the week. Sen. Dan Patrick will also take the oath of office as the next lieutenant governor. That will take place on the south steps of the Texas State Capitol.

Immediately after the oath, anyone can grab lunch at the Inauguration Barbecue on the West Capitol Grounds. A plate of brisket and fixings costs $10.

At 2 p.m., the Governor and others will take part in a parade down Congress Avenue. Expect the road to be closed through at least 4 p.m.

On Tuesday night, members of the Texas political elite will dance into the evening at the Future of Texas Ball. Anyone can purchase tickets for $75 and be treated to country acts. Lady Antebellum and Texas-native Pat Green.

Correction: Abbott's inauguration isn't today as previously stated, it is January 20.

For the record I love hole in the wall joints.

Mexican Barbacoa with the steer skull sitting right on top of that sweet tender meat...

Cabrito, Borrego...

You cook any critter low and slow and you will eat it fast!

Seriously, the one in Denton sucked.

The Peppers alone in Waco made it above average.
Someone had hand made those.

It should always be served on the side.
Never goobered all over the meat when it cooks.

A pot roast is NOT a brisket cut, but can be cooked in the same manner, slow and long. Right on about the carrots, onions and potatoes. Leave out the celery. Too chewy.

The best BBQ ribs I have ever tasted were in Tennessee in a little town just at the north end of the Natchez Trace Parkway. I used to have a t-shirt from there but I wore it out. If you haven't driven the Natchez Trace from Miss to Tenn. you have missed a real treat. Do it in the fall the leaves are incredible.

Yes I am a Texan and my early ancestors walked out of Tennessee to get here. It took them about 75 years to get here, obviously they left their BBQ rib recipe behind. . It was a really long walk and I have a warm spot in my heart for Tenn.

Nimitz Museum = Fredericksburg

I strongly recommend the museum but caution you to carefully select among the various German restaurants in town. I selected...poorly...perhaps the toughest veal I have ever encountered. PM me if you’re interested in the name of the place to avoid.

Zero celery. I never saw that in my mothers pot roast. If she was here (alive) I would ask her what cut of meat she put in. This was the age of neighborhood butchers when the mothers had their favorite ones and most were stay at home moms though  mine did accounting work off and on

Her pot roast was braised in the oven. So it cooked at higher oven temps than you can get just simmering on the stove top

She had no chance, not even with the DNC behind her.
You will never hear of her again.

Say gnight Wendy...

Abbott has been a soldier on the frontlines forever.
And he gets things done!

Wendy had NO record.
What did she ever do? Get a Radio Shack built in FW?
Where is RS now?
She had an abortion and a family.
Where are they now?

I can not express my disdain for the woman.
