So now they say it means:

"They" are wrong.

BCE = Before Christian Era
CE = Christian Era

That's how I read them and explain them to anyone who asks. You can do the same.

I won’t argue it. I’ll let you argue with ‘they’.

Google “What does BCE and CE mean?” and you will get the vast majority of websites including some serious scholarly ones saying that is ‘Before Common Era’ and ‘Common Era’.

You can argue with them.

It would be an odd sort of timekeeping which arbitrarily (just happened to) choose the year of Christ's Birth as the zero point but refused to acknowledge that His Birth was the pivotal event.

Funny how those folks end up tripping over themselves.

I have read "CE" to mean Christian Era as well, and refuse to do otherwise.
