Says about our culture? America has entered into of post Christian era of neo pagan decadence. Drug use, homosexuality, pornography, fornication, earth and celebrity worship are now the norm. The President of the United States celebrates abortion. Animals have more legal right than fetuses.

Nice article but be careful. Someone could use a similar argument for gun control.

That’s what happens when you don’t brush your bulldog’s teeth.

Pure foolishness to put a 16 day old infant near ANY dog unsupervised, let alone a Pit Bull. Some adult dogs of ANY breed do get jealous of the new baby. Some animals get a sensory overload from the smell of an infant, and will impulsively just grab for it. We animal lovers tend to forget just how quickly a dog or cat can grab something, or somebody. There shouldn’t have to be laws created to prevent a common sense mistake, but that day may be coming.

I have noticed that there are always more pit bulls/American bulldogs at animal control. It wasn’t always that way. Do they just have more pups, are people less likely to get this breed fixed? It seems every 3rd kennel holds one. The next most common is the chihuahua or some blend of.

I have a friend who works at a city animal shelter. Its mostly all pit-bulls, from the ghetto.

I tell him its really just another welfare program, working to clean-up yet another inner-city mess.

Pitbulls are sweet and only attack when provoked. Just like Islamists.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was left feeble, half-blind, and nearly disabled from the effects of a massive stroke and heart attack. When the neighborhood villains noticed his vulnerability, his home and that of his elderly parents next door began to suffer break-in attempts and thefts from their yards and out buildings.

In response, my friend had security lights installed. That proved inadequate, so he got a puppy of the pit bull type known as an American Staffordshire Terrier. The dog grew rapidly and was utterly devoted to his owner and his parents, and without exception was friendly toward other family members and approved visitors. With the benefit of a doggie door and comprehensive fencing, the AmStaff was permitted to roam the property at all hours.

The natural guardian instincts of that single dog was enough to deter all but the most foolish of intruders. In that one instance, lots of barking in the wee hours, a racket on a covered porch, and a blood trail showed that an intruder had been badly bit. That was the end of the thefts and break in attempts.

In such a manner, a physically feeble but experienced and responsible dog owner was able to regain security of person and property for himself and his parents. No one got bit except someone fully deserving of it.

In a large country with a third of a billion people, the usual experience of the owners of pit bulls and similar breeds is that they have the benefit and responsibility of a friendly, protective, and powerful breed of dog. With proper breeding, socialization, training, and treatment, such dogs are excellent companions and protectors. The cases of unwarranted death or serious injury due to pit bull attack are relatively rare.

Indeed, virtually any breed of dog can kill. A CDC study of 20 years of fatal dog attacks included fatal attacks not just by pit bulls but also by Newfoundlands, Australian shepherds, Collies, Labrador Retrievers, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever -- and even fatal attacks by a Basenji, a Cocker Spaniel, a Coon Hound, two Dachshunds, and a Yorkshire Terrier, which is one of the smallest dogs.

Notably, fatal attacks are almost entirely by male dogs. If dramatically reducing the risk of death or serious injury from a dog attack is the point, then forbidding male dogs would make the most sense. But that would still leave unremedied a far more common cause of death at home: drowning in a backyard pool.

I have a fascination with Judge Judy and watch her show religiously. There are lots of cases with pits attacking people or other dogs and the defendant ALWAYS says “my dog was provoked” or “he’s never done anything like that before.” Judge Judy gives them that “you are such an idiot” look and says “do you know how many times I’ve heard that? Do you know how many times the people in the audience and across America have heard that? You’re an idiot. Judgment for the plaintiff.”

Pit bulls have a very short fuse. And when they flip out they don’t just defend themselves or their honor, they go for a kill.
Step on a lab’s tail and he will snap at you or even bite, a “get way from me” response.
A pit bull does a “you stepped on my tail, your dead,”

Having a pitbull (some other breeds also)around children is beyond foolish.

They are illegal in the town I live in and I won’t take a dog case involving defending the owner of a pit bull.

This thread is outing all the nanny state control freaks here. Nanny state control freaks want the government to crack down on others. They want the government to keep them safe.

Some want to ban guns. Some want to ban plants. Some want to ban certain dog breeds. Some want DUI checkpoints. All need to move to the northeast commie states where they belong.

I don't want pitt bulls to be outlawed, there are some good ones. I went to a new dog food store yesterday and the shop dog was the biggest pitt I have ever seen, nice and friendly. But I do want dog owners held accountable for damage their dogs do.

If your dog gets out and hurts or kills someone, “someone left the gate open, it's not my fault” is just not good enough.

A stiff fine and the dog gets put down, for starters. 2nd offense and the owner does jail time.

The problem is most people do not know how to raise certain breeds of dogs. Labs and golden retrievers are easy, not much to do about raising them. The terrier is a complete different story. He has to learn at a very young age that his owner is the alpha male And the owner should never let him have his way. When a terrier of any size comes to think he can do as he pleases with no repercussions that is when they become dangerous to his owner and the public. Even a trained attack dog will respect and obey his master compared to one who was raised with no discipline and thinks he is the boss. Not much different than raising kids really.
